After a tweet from a pop culture account compared Richardson's Parent Trap character, Elizabeth James, to Princess Diana, X (formerly Twitter) user g0ldcage tweeted: "The fact that her kids said that they put this movie on when they miss her because this character was exactly how she was… I will always cry over that."

Micheál Richardson, one of the late actress's sons with actor Liam Neeson, shared that The Parent Trap is his favorite movies of hers "because I just see her so much as that person."

"I'm so lucky too, because she's passed away, I can still watch her and see how she worked and also it's a great thing to have," he said.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, he explained, "She was this sweet, amazing mother figure — my best friend. She had these amazing, big welcomes when we'd come home or she would come home."

"It was so sudden," he said of her death. "When it's unexpected and it's just a complete freak accident, it really sort of messes with your mind, whether you believe in fate or not. It can send you for a bit of a head spin, and so you just latch onto the tiny little memories, whether it's her laugh or her energy in the room or her cooking. I do have her films to go back and watch her in, which I'm incredibly grateful for."

In the interview with Vanity Fair, he said, "I don't, even still, think that I've fully comprehended it, and that seems to be a similar journey to a lot of people I've spoken to." He was only 13 years old when his mother died.

"50-year-olds who lost their parents when they were 12, 13… One day they’re out gardening, and something comes over them and they just break down," he added.

He also shared that he took her last name in 2019 to honor her memory and work.
