The video clip felt too real
"PSA for husbands," the video reads.
In the video, Josh Jones pans across the family's home for Christmas. He and the kids have stockings. Even the dog has one. But then he finds an empty one. "Whose is this?" he asks. "Is this an extra one?"
Josh's wife, Aubree, pipes up and says, "No, that’s mine," with a laugh. When her husband asks why it's empty, Aubree replies, "I don’t know. Santa didn’t come for me."
Josh's comments highlight a common problem
Aubree captioned the video, "It took him 10 years to notice it’s been empty this whole time," and a lot of moms felt that caption.
"It was supposed to be a lighthearted thing to show what moms go through," Aubree told Today. But she had no idea how people were going to react.
Aubree wasn't prepared for the way people would react
The comments are flooded with women who see themselves as the Aubree in their own holiday celebrations.
"She laughs. But I knew inside it hurt," one person commented.
"All of us women felt that in our stomach. That hurt," another said.
"The moms create Christmas magic for everyone, including the dog, but are forgotten every single year," another comment read.
"It’s painful. We work so hard taking care of our family and we end up empty," someone else added.
Aubree swears that she wasn't upset and that Josh got the message
"There was a lot of unnecessary negativity directed at Josh," Aubree said of the comments on the video.
"I know it looks like I was sad sitting off to the side with no gifts surrounding me, but I wasn’t sad at all," she shared. "I was doing what most moms do, which is just enjoying my kids being happy on Christmas morning."
She also shared that the video was from Christmas 2021, and she only recently found it in her phone. She swore that the following Christmas her stocking was full.
