Aunt Takes Nephew to Get a Mullet Without Asking Mom Because She Thinks It’ll Be ‘Funny’

It's true what they say about humor being subjective, but one woman on TikTok seems to really be pushing the boundaries of what most people think is "funny." In a recent post, @stickybpnez says she was watching her toddler-aged nephew when she got an idea for a prank to pull on his mom (aka her sister). So, the aunt secretly took him to get a bold new haircut without telling her sister first.

The post was uploaded just last week

In just about six days, it's already managed to rake in 1.7 million views and a lot of opinionated comments from people all over TikTok.

"Today, my sister left me in charge of her child, so I thought it would be funny to a hairdresser and pull a little pranky," the TikTok poster begins.

As she talks, she can barely contain her laughter — because clearly, she thinks this is going to be H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S.

"I'm not going to tell you guys what it's going to be, but it's going to be so funny!" she continues.

Before leaving the house, the auntie does a "fit check" in the mirror

The unwitting boy smiles as his aunt shows off his "before" hair, which is slightly unruly, but nothing too crazy in the world of boy hair.

Then she cuts to the hairdresser, where her nephew sits excitedly in a racecar-inspired barber's chair as he awaits his new 'do.

"Are you ready?" @stickybpnez asks him — to which he gives her a big smile.

Moments later, the hairdresser starts buzzing away his long locks

In the end, he's left with a kid-size mullet that looks like something out of Joe Dirt — and his aunt cannot control her laughter.

"Do you love it?!" she asks her nephew, who replies with an enthusiastic "yeah!!!"

"Stay tuned," she tells her viewers, before unveiling the new haircut to her sister.

The big reveal wasn't actually posted until the next day

By then, the original post had pulled in a lot of views and a ton of fired-up comments.

"Honestly … as an expecting mom, if anybody decides to cut my babies hair I’m FIGHTING," one commenter wrote.

"Immediately NO," added someone else. "You crossed a line and I would literally cry and loose contact for a while."

"I would feel so disrespected if someone cut my child’s hair without me," yet another person said.

Others told the aunt that this was far from a "funny" thing to do

"This isn’t a prank though," one person pointed out. "It’s a real hair cut with real loud disrespect."

"[You] should have just said I’m cutting his hair without his mom's permission today," someone else wrote. "A prank is putting on a bald cap … I would have cried."

Then came the mom's reaction

Just one day after her original post went up, @stickybpnez shared a clip of her sister coming home to the toddler mullet, but admitted that her reaction was "lowkey disappointing."

From the look of things, her sister found the whole thing mildly funny too, and didn't actually freak out as much as TikTokers anticipated. In fact, she seemed more keyed in to the fact that her son had a bandage, which made her worry that he got hurt.

In the comments, a lot of people said TikTokers overreacted

"All the moms in the comment section acting like hair doesn’t GROW BACK," one person wrote. "Unless it’s like his first haircut ever, I don’t see the issue."

"I would never in a million years be mad at my sis for this!" someone else said. "It’s hair lol now someone I don’t like doing it … that’s a dif story."

Some of the commenters were moms themselves, who said you can't really sweat the small stuff when you have a toddler, anyway.

"Mom life," one mom declared. "Sees the haircut, shocked, but automatically is like what is this Band Aid [you have]!?"

"OBVIIIIOUSLY they have a good relationship and she her sis wouldn't be pressed OR SHE WOULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT," someone else wrote.

Touché.
