3 Children, 3 Adults Shot and Killed at Elementary School in Nashville

Six people were shot and killed at a school in Nashville on Monday. According to CNN, three children and three adults were among the people killed at a private Christian elementary school.

The shooter, according to NBC News, was described as a teen girl who was killed on the school's second floor before she "engaged" with officers.

The shooter had two "assault-type rifles and a handgun," NBC News reported.

The three students were pronounced dead upon arrival at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The ages of the children have not yet been revealed by officials.

Students were being reunited with their family at a church about two miles away from the school.

Officials received the first call about the shooting at 10:13 a.m. local time. By 10:39 a.m., Nashville firefighters were responding to an "active aggressor."

"The police department response was swift," police spokesperson Don Aaron told reporters, according to NBC News.

"They heard shots coming from the second level. They immediately went to the gunfire. When the officers got to the second level, they saw a shooter, a female, who was firing. The officers engaged her. She was fatally shot by responding police officers."
