Excessive gas can start as early as six weeks into your pregnancy, says Dr. Codi Wiener, obstetrician and gynecologist at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women in Houston. “This is most likely caused by a slowing of the intestinal tract, which is caused by all the hormones of pregnancy, especially progesterone,” says Wiener. Dietary changes may also contribute to gas. When a pregnant woman is gassy or even constipated as a result, she is likely to feel bloated, especially at night, adds Wiener.
