On Saturday, May 13, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will host an activity-packed afternoon of games and entertainment to encourage children and families to get active and save lives. The event will feature a "Star Wars"-inspired activity, a Target crazy maze, main stage entertainment and much more. Special guests Dartanyon Crockett (UNICEF Kid Power Champion and Paralympic judo medalist), actors Joshua Rush ("Andi Mack"), Jade Pettyjohn ("School of Rock"), Talitha Bateman ("Annabelle: Creation"), Gabriel Bateman ("Outcast") will be attending, alongside representatives from UNICEF USA and hundreds of families.
With ongoing conflicts and countries facing famine, the need to support UNICEF’s nutrition work is great. This is the second of three events that will encourage local families to show their Kid Power. This spring more than 25,000 students in the Los Angeles region have participated in the UNICEF Kid Power Schools Program, unlocking more than 200,000 Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) packets. To date, the UNICEF Kid Power Team has provided about 6.4 million packets of RUTF, enough to save the lives of more than 40,000 malnourished children.
UNICEF Kid Power activates kids’ inner heroes, giving them the power to end global malnutrition and save lives, one step at a time. Only one in four American kids gets enough physical activity, and almost one in four children globally is malnourished. With the UNICEF Kid Power Band, kids run, jump and play to unlock lifesaving RUTF packets for severely malnourished children around the world. The Kid Power Team hopes to use daily activity to unlock 1 million packets in the month of May.
This event is free and takes place at Microsoft Square at LA Live. For additional information, or to make a donation, visit UNICEF Kid Power’s official website.
