Make Time Count!

Being a mom usually means you already have a busy day planned. The last thing you want to do is worry about your makeup melting away.
“The key to long-lasting makeup is in the products that you use," says Virginia-based makeup artist Kim Porter. "By using an oil-free moisturizer and foundation, primer for face and eyes, and a translucent face powder to set your look, you will have long-lasting, flawless makeup throughout the day."
Here are some tips to help your makeup go the distance.
Preparation Is Key

Putting makeup on a prepped face will make a big difference. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove excess oil, followed by an application of lightweight moisturizer with SPF and eye cream.
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser is gentle and won't strip your skin of moisture while it removes your makeup. The Ultra Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15 sinks in completely, offering just enough moisture whether your skin is oily or dry.

Prime Target

It's really tempting to skip the primer, especially if you're squeezing an entire beauty routine into 10 minutes or less. But the 30 seconds it takes to prime will be time well spent! Primers create a layer between your skin and makeup, preventing it from easily rubbing off.
Makeup artist Christina Farrell loves Smashbox. "This primer is amazing because it not only gives the skin a warm glow, but helps to add a soft focus filter to the skin, and add a luminosity to any foundation it is placed under."

Choose the Right Foundation

Oil-free foundation is better than the alternative; additionally, you should set it with loose translucent powder. "For flawless and long-lasting makeup, choose an oil-free foundation for its non-drying and build-able coverage. You will have a smooth, matte finish all day long," says Porter.
MAC's Pro Longwear foundation offers a natural finish but quite a bit of coverage as you build.

Glow All Day

Blush is often the first product to disappear. But you can easily create a flush that lasts all day! Apply a cream blush to the apples of your cheeks. Set with translucent powder, and then apply a powder blush. The layering creates a pretty glow, and your blush will last all day.
Choose complementing but slightly different colors for an even prettier glow. We recommend Stila Convertible Color in Lillium and NARS blush in Orgasm.
All-day Eye Shadow

A good eyelid primer can minimize visible blood vessels, prep the lid for perfect shadow application, and then keep that shadow looking fresh without smearing or caking all day. Just swipe a little primer onto your lid, and pat gently with your fingertip. This should add only 15 seconds to your routine.

Lipstick That Stands up to Coffee

If the thought of lip liner makes you want to run back to the '90s, think again! By lining and then filling in your lips with a good liner, you're creating a great base for your next lip product. Apply your lipstick, blot with a tissue and then apply a second layer. The multiple layers ensure great staying power, and, when it finally does start to fade, the color will do so more evenly.
Farrell keeps Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Liner Nos. 2, 4 and 6 on hand. "These neutrals are great under any lipstick and double the staying power."

Waterproof Everything

Waterproof makeup probably makes you think of mascara, but there are a lot more options now. From eye liner to shadow and even foundation, these products will be able to stand up to almost anything all day long. With the newest formulations, you won't notice a difference in application or removal.

Strategic Use of Powder

While many products need a little translucent powder to set them, you shouldn't overdo it. Too much (and in the wrong places) can settle into fine lines and make you look older. Use a light dusting over foundation and concealer, concentrating on the T-zone and avoiding any problem areas.
Make Up For Ever HD Powder is very finely milled, and when blended you won't be able to tell you have it on at all.

Makeup-Setting Spray

While it seems counterintuitive to spray a liquid onto your finished makeup (and expect it to last), today's sprays, including Skindinavia Bridal Makeup Finish, can help fight shine, make your makeup last longer and even cool you down on a hot summer day.
"Don't let the name Bridal fool you! This spray is amazing for anyone looking to keep their makeup fresh and in place all day and all night. It doesn't leave the skin sticky or matte, but instead keeps it fresh and transfer-proof," says Farrell.

Hands Off!

While it can be a very difficult habit to break, you should avoid touching your face at all during the day. Instead, use blotting paper to remove any excess oil throughout the day.
Tatcha all-natural beauty papers will take away any oil but leave your makeup intact … without leaving any powdery mess behind on your skin.
