With hometown pride being an integral part of the American spirit, Target has teamed up with menswear designer Todd Snyder to create exclusive collections inspired by cities across the country. Snyder has previously designed for Ralph Lauren and J.Crew and now his eponymous menswear line, for which he was nominated for the CFDA Swarovski Award for Menswear and selected as one of the 2013 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists.
A current New Yorker and Iowa native, Snyder understands life in a small town and a big city, and that each location has its own roots, stories and unique characteristics. The Local Pride collections reflect this city-specific spirit with clothes, accessories and merchandise curated by Snyder. These include T-shirts, baseball caps, pint glasses and phone cases specific to place.
"This collection is about the sense of discovery," said Snyder to Target. "We want to be your tour guide, showcasing the unique aspects of the local cities. I have visited some of the coolest spots and spoken to a lot of locals in each city that helped me design original, exclusive and fun designs."
The Boston collection, the collaboration's first destination, will feature T-shirts that read "Wicked Smaht," Cape Cod potato chips and Boston pride mugs. Following its release on July 22 in select stores, the rest of the collections will launch on a rolling basis into early 2016. Upcoming cities include San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego and Minneapolis.
We love the idea of a collection that embodies a specific locale. As West Coasties here at mom.me, we love the laid-back California culture and we can't wait to see Snyder's take on Los Angeles and the rest of the cities.
