How to Sterilize a Salad Spinner

Washing by Hand

Step 1

Detach the salad spinner lid and attached pump from the salad spinner basket. The basket should still be resting inside the colander.

Step 2

Squeeze some antibacterial dish soap into the salad spinner basket.

Step 3

Run the faucet until the water is hot. Place the colander and basket under the faucet and fill halfway with hot water.

Step 4

Place the salad spinner lid and pump back on the colander.

Step 5

Push down the salad spinner pump quickly to move the basket inside the bowl. The spinning action will circulate the soap and water through the device's parts.

Step 6

Remove the lid when the basket has stopped spinning. Pour most of the soap and water out of the colander.

Step 7

Wipe the salad spinner basket with a sponge to remove food particles from the holes in the basket. Remove the basket from the colander, and scrub the colander. Scrub the lid and spinner as well.

Step 8

Dry the salad spinner with a towel.

Step 1

Separate the salad spinner lid from the basket and colander. Do not try to separate the lid from the pump. They should stay attached.

Step 2

Pull the basket and colander apart.

Step 3

Place each component on the top rack of the dishwasher. If the top rack can't accommodate the colander, place it on the bottom rack.

Step 4

Fill the dishwasher's soap receptacle with dishwasher detergent.

Step 5

Run the dishwasher on a normal wash cycle. Allow the dishwasher to dry all components thoroughly.
