RECIPE: Slow-Cooker Applesauce
Ingredients
- 10 large apples, peeled, cored and coarsely chopped
- ½ cup water
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ cup granulated sugar
Directions
- Add all of the ingredients to a large slow cooker. Stir them a few times with a wooden spoon to distribute the spices.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on high heat for about 4 hours. The apples will break down into a chunky applesauce.
- If you want an even smoother sauce you can puree it with a hand blender. Allow to cool until comfortable to touch before eating.
Freezing: To freeze the applesauce, place it in a plastic container, leaving 1-inch headspace at the top to allow for expansion.
