After I had my first child, I used to wear all black every day. For one, my black leggings and stretchy pants and black tops were the only things that fit me. But that was fine, because whenever I wore all black, I just felt pulled together.
I also discovered the beauty of the slicked-back ponytail because I didn’t have time to wash and blow out my hair like I did before I had kids.
These two beauty hacks got me through the trenches when all my kids were young. When I got pregnant with my second child, I stocked up on all black maternity clothes because I knew they would save me after I had her. I was right.
Beauty hacks are imperative to moms. We want to look our best, but we are also so damn exhausted we don’t care about it as much. We don't have to choose – here are some great beauty hacks for moms of the world shared by equally tired moms.
Eyelash extensions = totally worth it

One new mom said, “I got eyelash extensions when I was pregnant and I loved them. I could walk out of the house without any eye makeup on and still feel great!”
A little lipstick goes a long way

Another busy mom of three shared, “Wearing lipstick makes people think I put in more effort than I do. That paired with a messy bun or ponytail and my favorite flannel makes me feel comfortable and like myself.”
Stick to the basics

Another great tip from a mom with toddlers: “Good moisturizer, bronzer, and the Tula Glow Eye Balm are amazing!”
Baseball caps FTW

“A baseball hat is a great thing to throw on if you can’t get to your hair. That, and a good face wash, clean underwear, some BB cream, and mascara are all I need to feel new again,” said a new mom of a 6-month-old.
Maximize your efforts

A working mom said she has her morning routine down to 20 minutes: "I focus on my eyes only, and put the most effort into my eyebrows and use mascara. Then, I just use a little tinted moisturizer to even out my skin. I sleep with my hair up and use a silk scarf and pillowcase so my hair needs little attention in the morning before work.”
Invest in good (and comfy!) basics

“Invest in a good bra and comfortable flattering pants, and wear a shoe with a bit of a heel. This makes everyone stand taller and feel better,” said another veteran mom.
Sunglasses hide everything

“There were days when my two kids were toddlers that I wore my sunglasses inside all the time. That and a swipe of lip gloss with my hair up always made me feel better,” said a mom of teens who remembers what it was like to get everyone out the door.
Life is different now

Being a mom may mean we don’t have the same amount of time and energy to do a full face of makeup, or spend a lot of time on our hair. And that’s OK – our roles are different now and we have other priorities. That doesn’t mean we don't care about how we look or want to put in any effort. We just want it to be a bit easier.
