Have You Cleaned Your Social Media Recently? 5 Quick Tips to Clean That Screen

Whether we care to admit it or not, social media is a "space" where we spend a significant amount of time. And, like the kitchen or living room, it needs a deep clean from time to time. This can feel daunting, but it actually feels so rewarding to hit that unfollow button! Read on for simple tips below, then take a few minutes to go through your Snapchat/Instagram/Twitter/Facebook.

Delete them if …

  • It's been months (or even years!) since they last posted.

If they haven't tweeted since the finale of "Breaking Bad" in 2013, there's a pretty good chance they're not going to post any time soon—so you won't miss out on anything! By the time they do tweet again in 2021, we'll already be on to the next social media fad.

  • You met them once, followed each other … and then never spoke again.

We've all been there: After meeting at some function or another, you two were so sure you were going to be BFFs. But that was last year and you guys never grabbed dinner like you both swore you would. Probably safe to give 'em an unfollow!

If someone is clogging up your feed with boring photos of their lunch, then it might be a good time to cut them out

It's hard to keep things positive when every time you go on social media, someone is complaining. We get it: Your kids aren't sleeping, it's too hot outside, your pediatrician is a jerk, blah blah blah. But no one needs that bad energy in their life!

  • They post a billion times a day.

Between Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and Facebook, there's so much to keep track of. If someone is clogging up your feed with boring photos of their lunch, then it might be a good time to cut them out and free up space for more important content!

  • Their content makes you feel badly about yourself.

Just because you spent last weekend nursing three kids with nasty colds while so-and-so was luxe vacationing in Greece, that doesn't mean her life is more exciting than yours. If their posts continually make you feel you're not living your best life, then it might be time to unfollow—or at least hide them on FB!
