Kim Kardashian Fan or Not, Every Mom Can Feel Her Pain

I never thought I’d utter these words, but Kim Kardashian has really grown on me. Nothing against the Dash clan, but I’ve never really been a fan. But over the years, I’ve come to appreciate all the Karsashians have accomplished as businesswomen, with Kim being the trailblazer. I don’t have to personally get what they do to appreciate the dedication and hard work that goes into building one’s self as a brand. But lately, in light of Kanye West’s very public airing of the couple’s dirty laundry, I found myself feeling for Kim.

And it’s safe to assume I’m not alone

Kanye West is no stranger to controversy. His feud with Taylor Swift goes back to the 2009 MTV VMA’s and continues on to this day. He’s insulted good friend Jay-Z in public, formed a strange alliance with Donald Trump, and used Twitter as a platform to post random thoughts that don’t always make sense. Looking back, those incidents were probably part of mental health episodes due to West’s bipolar disorder, which was confirmed last week by Kardashian. But throughout those many public and probably embarrassing episodes, Kim remained loyal to her husband.

I think about how hard marriage and parenting can be under the best of circumstances, without the strain of fame and without personal business being tweeted out like fodder on a regular basis. And though Kim has achieved great wealth and can afford help with her kids, she’s still mommy to four young kids whose dad is going off the rails. It’s hard enough to parent kids through teething, diapers, sleepless nights, bad dreams, anxiety, and sibling rivalry.

Add public humiliation into the mix, and most moms would crack under pressure

Maybe Kim has cracked, but publicly she’s supportive of and dedicated to her husband. Watching it all go down like a public soap opera that probably won’t end well, I think every mom has the same reaction, which is to feel empathy for Kim. Dare I say, we even feel a bit protective of her.

What she’s going through has to be humiliating, lonely, terrifying, and heartbreaking. To handle it gracefully is the ultimate definition of grace under pressure.

I think we can all agree on that

And though I won't be streaming Keeping Up With the Kardashians anytime soon, I can comprehend what Kim must be going through right now. She may have millions, but she’s still the person protecting her kids while standing by their dad. Her dedication to him is completely admirable. I’m not sure if I would do the same. But then again, people can surprise you. Kim Kardashian certainly surprised me.
