I Started Using a Cleansing Balm to Wash My Face and My Skin Has Never Looked Better

If you’ve been on TikTok lately (or have a teenage daughter like I do who’s in the know and gets all their skin care information from the app), I’m sure you’ve heard about "glass skin."

If you haven’t, I’ll give you the deets: Glass skin is a Korean beauty trend and it's when your skin is glowy, shiny, and has the appearance of glass (I’ve also seen it called "Jello skin"). To achieve this, you have to hydrate your skin really well, giving it a poreless, gleaming look.

While this intrigued me, I didn’t try to get my glass-looking face until I heard about washing my face with cleansing balm (or butter) instead of soap. This made me want to try it because I've always had sensitive skin and can only use a few different cleansers. Anything that dries my skin makes me break out and look really red.

I tried a jar of Yoonique cleansing butter after reading it won’t disturb my skin’s pH level and will leave it clean and moisturized at the same time. I've been using it for almost a month now and I can honestly say I’ll never go back. Here’s what’s happened to my skin since I’ve been washing it with this amazing balm:

My skin feels and looks amazing

Not only does the balm roll over the skin like butter and smell delicious, but my skin also looks plump and very "glassy" — especially right after I wash it. I feel like I actually look better after I wash my face now.

I never get that dry/tight feeling

Right after washing my face, I used to have to reach for the oils, serums, and moisturizers right away. Even during the summer humidity, my skin would tighten up. Those days are gone. My face is not only clean after using the balm, my face is already moisturized and feels nourished.

I need less moisturizer

Slapping on lots of moisturizers is a thing of the past. My skin used to soak up every bit of moisturizer I’d put on it, but now it’s already so hydrated I use fewer serums and moisturizers.

My pores don’t get clogged from using sunscreen

The balm really removes all my makeup and sunscreen. I used to get lots of little clogged pores whenever I wore sunscreen, no matter what kind I tried. I now know it wasn’t the sunscreen at all — I was getting clogged pores because my cleanser wasn’t completely getting rid of the sunscreen and other dirt and makeup I had on my face.

All my eye makeup comes off

After massaging the balm into the skin and removing it with a cloth, there’s no trace of anything on my face. Bye bye raccoon eyes!

I wear less makeup

After about a week, I’d wake up in the morning and my skin looked so glowy and even I stopped wearing highlighter and bronzer — two products I always felt like I needed to give my skin some life and sheen. Now, I love the way my natural skin looks so much that the last thing I want to do is cover up my glow.

I don’t always follow the trends on TikTok but I’m so glad I decided to try this one. As a 47-year-old woman, it’s nice to know I can keep my skin looking its best with a simple cleansing balm and spend less time putting on makeup in the morning.
