When I was pregnant with all three of my kids, one of the things that was so uncomfortable for me was the night sweats. I’d never experienced anything like this before – especially not during a cold winter’s night in the Northeast. However, every night I’d wake up in a pool of sweat.
A few years ago, after entering my 40s, it started happening again — and no, I wasn’t pregnant
I was, however, entering perimenopause. The night sweats and hot flashes got progressively worse until I found a simple solution.
While listening to my local radio station, the host was talking about vitamin E and all its benefits. As soon as he claimed that the vitamin could help with night sweats and hot flashes, I turned up the volume.
I had never taken vitamin E and had no idea if it could help
I literally drove myself to the drugstore to get some that very minute. The host went on to say that it could also help with restless leg syndrome (something my boyfriend suffers from), so I decided that we would both take it. Luckily for me, he was in agreement. He doesn’t enjoy the restless leg thing and he knows it affects my sleep too.
We both started taking it every day
I take mine at night with dinner, and he takes his in the morning with his other vitamins. After about two weeks, this is what happened:
I woke up to take my nightly pee and noticed I wasn’t hot or soaked with sweat, and I could pull the blankets over me when I got back in bed. I used to only use the top sheet because I’d be hot despite keeping my room at 62 degrees Fahrenheit.
The first time this happened I wondered if it was just a coincidence. Then, the next night the same thing happened: I got up to use the bathroom, and I was at a comfortable temperature and my pajamas weren’t even damp.
I felt so much more rested
I'm guessing I'm getting better sleep because I’m more comfortable.
My boyfriend’s restless legs are also so much better. He’s not as fidgety at night, and we are both waking up a lot less because he’s actually still.
I also noticed his snoring has improved quite a bit. It’s not completely gone, but he doesn’t snore half as much or half as loud as he used to. I’m not sure if that’s connected with the vitamin E, but I’ll take it. We’ve been together for two and a half years, and his snoring has never been this under control and we’ve tried a lot of things.
On top of all this, I have a lot more energy and I’m not as forgetful
I’m sure this is connected to getting a better night’s sleep, but some studies show vitamin E can also help with memory loss due to lack of sleep.
I can’t believe how a simple vitamin can help us both sleep so much better, but I do know one thing: I’ll never be without it again. Goodbye, night sweats and jittery legs — I hope to never see you guys again.
