My husband is a podcast junkie. He rarely reads books and doesn’t listen to a ton of music — podcasts are his thing. And he tries to make them my thing, too. But, I love the library and music is my back-up. So, his recommendations go in one ear and out the other.
I read a book a few years ago though, Teaching From Rest by Sarah Mackenzie, and she hosts a podcast. Naturally I was intrigued. And that intrigue quickly led me to fully invest in one, single podcast. It’s Sarah Mackenzie’s and it’s called Read Aloud Revival. I absolutely love it.
Read Aloud Revival is geared toward homeschool families, but it’s truly full of useful information for anyone who wants to build a book culture within their home
Most of all, I love how Sarah encourages reading in a no shame/no guilt way. At the end of each podcast I feel encouraged and excited, not burdened to do more and be more like someone else.
Sarah nevers says you have to read a specific number of books, facilitate book reports, or read a special mix of fiction and non; rather, she says, and I paraphrase, Read Aloud Revival is like a buffet of resources. With over 200 episodes, you can pick and choose and enjoy. It’s really lovely, to be so encouraged while being given so many tools to successfully raise readers.
Read Aloud Revival is brimming with wisdom. And, at the heart, it’s all about growing relationships within your family through books
No matter the curriculum you use, no matter how you opt to educate your children, statistics prove that reading aloud has a monumental impact on kids. Reading produces empathy, it unveils others’ struggles, it plants ideas and passions, and opens up worlds we may never see with our own eyes.
And, on top of all the ideas and encouragement, Read Aloud Revival consistently shares the very best reading recommendations for all age groups. Most recently, we fell in love with A Place to Hang the Moon by Kate Albus … all thanks to Sarah’s recommendation.
Doesn’t Read Aloud Revival sound amazing?
I can assure you, it is. This podcast 100% deserves a spot in your listening queue.
