Hey, ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ Enough About COVID Already!

Dear Grey’s Anatomy producers, creators, actors, and writers,

How are you?

I feel like I’ve hardly even seen you recently. It just so happened that, in a season/year that I had near unlimited time to indulge in television, there was nothing to watch. I had to survive quarantine on reruns and step out of my comfort zone with a bunch of new series.

I enjoyed them, but I missed you

I realize that your long vacation and sudden end to last season was not your fault. You fell victim to this crazy pandemic, just like the rest of us. No, I don’t blame you for leaving me hanging. But I do have some issues to sort out with you now that you are back.

First off, what is with this 12-week-long winter break business? I mean, I just got you back, and then you’re off galavanting again for these winter TV–watching months doing who knows what?

Take a break for the holidays if you must. A couple of weeks — even a month — is permissible, but this taking a full-on summer-length break between the months of November and March is inexcusable.

I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed

Secondly, please give us a break from COVID.

I get it, you’re a show about a hospital and doctors and medicine, yadda, yadda, yadda. You probably feel that it would be obtuse of you to go about your usual run-of-the-mill abdominal wall transplants and delivering babies who are growing in a woman's bowel.

But you’re wrong

Maybe you don’t know this, but I do not tune into Grey’s Anatomy to hear about current events. I watch the show for an escape from reality. If I want to watch the death toll rise and see refrigerator corpse trucks in hospital parking lots, I can watch the news.

I’m just speaking for myself here, but the last thing I need to reduce my stress in this very difficult year is to sit down with my popcorn to relax and watch Meredith Grey nearly die of the coronavirus for six weeks straight.

So, to all of you wonderful creators and writers and behind-the-scenes geniuses who have created years and years of this show I love…

… I need a break.

From COVID.

Love,
Your devoted fan who has had enough

PS: Please don’t kill Meredith.
