Summer calls for refreshing, hydrating, delicious treats. My family — and kids especially — love paletas. We love creating our own popsicle flavors. Since the kids pass time by being active and playful outdoors, a popsicle helps cool them down and keeps them hydrated.
We love creating our own popsicles because they're so easy to make. The molds are reusable and we always have ingredients on hand and it's a fun activity to do with the kids. The best part of making our own popsicles is getting to customize our own flavors using our favorite fresh fruits and juices.
There are so many fruits in season during the summer that the possibilities are endless. The only catch is making sure different flavors taste great together, so there is a lot of popsicle tasting involved. But really, the kids won't be complaining!
Find a popsicle mold at your local grocery store that is shaped like a traditional paleta and get ready to make popsicles. Keep the kids happy and hydrated with these three fresh fruit popsicle flavors using only two ingredients: fresh fruit and juice. You can even substitute your own homemade juices for a no sugar added version.
The combinations shown in this recipe include berry punch with raspberries, white grape juice with mango, and lemonade with watermelon. Make your own combinations with your favorite fruit and juices! Enjoy a summer of paletas with the family and don't be afraid to get wild with the flavors!
RECIPE: Fresh Fruit and Juice Popsicles
Yields about 8 3-ounce popsicles
Prep time: 15 minutes
Freeze time: 8 hours
Total time: 8 hours 15 minutes
Ingredients
- ½ cup watermelon, diced (seedless is best)
- ½ cup mango slices or chunks
- ½ cup raspberries
- Minute Maid Berry Punch
- white grape juice
- lemonade (make your own or use store-bought)
Directions
- Add fruit to your popsicle mold. Be sure your fruit pieces are small enough to fit in the mold. We had enough fruit for 3 of each popsicle flavor. You can also mix the fruits in the same mold if you like.
- Add juice to your popsicle mold. Since you're working with small molds, try pouring juice in slowly with a small cup so you don't make the molds overflow.
- Add a stick by piercing a piece of fruit at the bottom to keep it stable, or secure the stick between fruit pieces so it stays put. Cover your mold with plastic wrap or foil.
- Freeze your popsicles for at least 8 hours or overnight for best results.
TIP: Run your popsicle mold under warm water for easy popsicle removal.
