Force Friday Is a Dream Come True for ‘Star Wars’ Fans

A big day for the toy industry and "Star Wars" fans: Force Friday has been dedicated as the release date of new merchandise centered around the epic franchise in anticipation of its seventh installment "The Force Awakens," which is due out on December 18. Disney has partnered up with Hasbro, Lego and other major retailers to create these products, which is expected to bring in at least $1 billion in sales.

A global live unboxing event took place to unveil the new toys in over 15 cities and 12 countries via YouTube. Such included a remote controlled flying X-Wing, Storm Trooper costumes and a BB-8 droid sphere that can roll and balance on its own, exemplifying the new technologies that have been used to create this new grade of toys.

"We are putting a flag in the ground as establishing ourselves as destination for 'Star Wars,'" said Richard Barry, executive vice president and chief global merchandising officer for Toys R Us, to The Street. "When we look back on the year I am confident to say 'Star Wars' will have its fingerprints very firmly on the toy industry, and consumer products overall."

In addition to toys, kids' rooms can be turned into 'Star Wars' hubs with exclusive beddings, murals and chairs. Our favorite? The super cool Millennium Falcon cockpit bed sold at Pottery Barn that comes with a cool price tag of $3,999. We know it's a bit extreme, but imagine your kid's face if you ever came home with this!
