Easy & Adorable DIY Father’s Day Card Ideas

Time to celebrate the dads who are trying and making that work-life balance happen. It is hard for all of us, and so when our partners are doing everything they can to keep the family in sync, it is something to be celebrated.

We all know the major impact that a mother has on her children’s lives, and a father’s impact is no different. “The earlier a father is involved with his children, the more likely he is to stay involved, leading to positive emotional, social, behavioral and academic outcomes for the child,” shared Raymond Levy, psychologist and CEO of Fatherhood Project, in his blog.

Let’s honor this upcoming Father’s Day with sweetly homemade Father’s Day cards from you and your kiddos.

Little hands can produce quite the card for Dad. And what can be more beautiful than the moment when your spouse sees the DIY gifts that his children have put together. “The only thing better than seeing my boys have fun drawing pictures for their dad is his reaction when he sees them,” mom of two Kristen Johnston previously told Mom.com.

So, get the card stock, glue, paint, and the googly eyes on hand for you and your toddler to put together some messy, meaningful cards for dada.

"Yoda Best Dad"
This one is for the Star Wars fan, or any father who enjoys a good play on words! Underneath a sketched picture of Yoda’s infamous sage green head, have your little one color in Yoda's brown robe with his finger paint.

Turn his hobby into a card
If dad is a sneakerhead, car-aficionado, fisher, or the like, create a card in the shape of that object. Let your little one color in the card and let them put their own twist on dad’s favorite hobby.

“You’re the Best Pops”
If your hubby is a fan of popcorn or if your family holds down a weekly movie night, then a popcorn-themed Father's Day card will be a fun surprise for dad. A combination of colored cardstock and foam paper with yellow painted cotton balls makes this a stellar card. Throw in a pair of movie tickets and you’ve set up a must needed date night.

"You are my Superhero"
Your toddler can get involved in this hands-on card by dipping the sole of his foot and the palm of his hand into his favorite superhero's colors. Stamp the little guy’s foot and palm on a piece of folded cardstock paper to make a caped superhero!

For our older kids, have them pull out their creative smarts to put together some clever cards that will even surprise Dad.

Father’s Day glasses card
Glasses are what your kiddo has been interested in since day one. Babies love taking off daddy’s glasses. Now, as a big kid, let her make her dad some new glasses. A template could be used, or have your pre-teen or teen make their own design of how daddy’s glasses should look.

iDad Card
This one is for the tech-savvy dad who has all things online. Have your older kids put together a card that mirrors an iPhone with printed-out apps pasted on black and white cardstock.

Suit and Tie
If your spouse’s work uniform involves a sharp suit and tie, then have your kid recreate his father's favorite suit as a card. Add in detials that really showcase Dad's style.

Barbeque Card
If your partner enjoys grilling on those weekend afternoons, put together a clever card shaped like a grill. All that is needed is black, white, and grey construction paper, googly eyes, and scissors.

Digitalize your Father’s Day card. Greeting cards are a classic, but sometimes it is okay to try something different.

Audio Recording
If you have tiny tots or big kids, capturing their young voices makes the best memory. Order a recording device from a major online retail store, and in your homemade card, insert the recording device into the panels of your card. All that Dad has to do is press down to hear the celebratory message.

Father’s Day Video Card
For this card, the possibilities are wide open. Have your kiddos collectively share affirmations to dad through song, poetry, or a loving message.

Father’s Day Book
For this year, the greeting card that will best capture all of the love for dad can be showcased in a book. This one takes planning so if you have big kids, have them help. Gather materials: glue, cardstock, fabric for the binding, scissors, and cardboard for the book cover to make your own Father's Day book.
