Dear Blue Dawn Detergent, I Can Never Quit You

Today, it was spaghetti sauce. Yesterday, it was mud. Like, caked-on mud and grass from outdoor adventuring. Last week, it was makeup, popsicle drips, and buffalo dip.

Stains.

You have ‘em, I have ‘em. It’s part of mom life — to identify, treat, and return articles of clothing in their pre-spill state.

With four kids, I know stains

And, let’s face it, I’m a bit clumsy myself. That buffalo dip I mentioned? That was my husband’s recent spill. So, really, we’re just a messy family.

My kids are well-trained to alert me of their stains so I can treat them quickly and, for quite a few years, I had a heavy rotation of every stain stick, cream, and spritz in our laundry room. I’d wash once with one, see that it didn’t come out, and then, try another, crossing my fingers all the way that maybe I had found the magic combination of stain vs. stain remover.

Then, I discovered that blue Dawn detergent — just that basic, cheap dish soap — was the real stain warrior.

Blue Dawn detergent, I don’t know how you — a mere kitchen supply — have managed to steal my heart, but you totally have. You are the laundry hack that takes care of 99% of stains.

I am forever indebted to you

I believe it’s the degreasing agent in blue Dawn that's the real miracle worker. Grease-based stains just don’t stand a chance when it comes to a squirt of Dawn. And no, you don’t have to worry about putting a bright blue product on your light-colored clothing. You will not end up with a blue spot. Just another bit of its magic, I suppose!

To treat almost any stain, simply add a dollop of blue Dawn to the offending spot, lightly massage it in to the article of clothing, and pop it in the washing machine. Done and done — I promise.

I now save a ton on my laundry supplies

No more cupboard full of every mixture on the market that promises to remove stains. I’m just a "regular laundry detergent and blue Dawn" mama now.

Trust me, grab a bottle of blue Dawn on your next Target run — it’s less than $2 and 100% worth it. Why does it have to be the blue one? I have no idea, but I'm too scared to ever try any other color now.
