Halle Berry is not only one of the most amazing-looking 46-year-old women on the planet—yes, 46—but she is an Oscar-winning actress and mom who knows how to flatter her figure. When she's on the red carpet, she dazzles with body-conscious evening gowns, and when she goes casual, she does so with sexy separates and jeans.

Berry is a woman who isn't afraid to take chances, and most of her fashion risks have paid off. Take the still-talked-about Elie Saab dress she wore when she won the Academy Award in 2002. It was stylish but daring, and she made a statement. "Most of her outfits skim her silhouette, which is a great way to show off curves while leaving a bit of mystery," says Mikki Bey, beauty expert and CEO of Mikki Bey Eyelash Extensions, based in Los Angeles.

Jewel-tones make her radiant. While Berry looks beautiful in neutral shades, it's the bright pinks and deep reds and purples that turn her into a force of nature. While Berry is best known for the frocks she rocks at awards events, she is also adept at looking cool and casual. "Halle looks great in anything," Bey says. "She is just as impressive on a playdate with her daughter as she is at the Oscars. I love that she wears baseball hats. It is a reminder that even one of the most beautiful women in the world can have a bad hair day."

Comfort and motherhood go hand and hand, and with time, Berry seems to have mellowed. As a result, her fashion tastes are more relaxed and fun. "Her wardrobe is full of basics," says Bey, who is also a make-up artist. "Mixing and matching a cute tank with a pair of worn jeans and flip-flops is the typical uniform of SoCal moms. Halle is no exception. Keeping it simple is best."

Berry has been in the business for three decades. But the former beauty queen will always be known for curve-hugging outfits and her sexy pixie haircut. "Even when she shows skin, she keeps it classy, sexy and age appropriate," Bey says. "The same goes for her beauty choices. Her signature short cut has been traded for longer tresses over the years, but she always returns to her pixie."

Although the Cleveland native likes to take chances with her clothes, she keeps accessories to a minimum so that her look is concise. To this end, Berry rarely wears necklaces. That stunning Versace number she wore to the 2013 Oscars? It was accentuated with a simple pair of earrings and a ring on her left middle finger. "Halle has done a great job of refining her look over the years," Bey says.

Flip flops are fine for taking little ones to the park. But when it comes to making red carpet appearances, Berry wears heels, heels and more heels. "She has always had a very casual jeans and T-shirt style," Bey says. "On the red carpet she is still as sexy as she ever was. She shows that being a mom isn't the end of sex appeal."

Nothing lends sophistication to casual separates like a well-tailored blazer. Whenever Berry wears one, she looks polished. "She finds ways to add flair to her wardrobe," Bey says. During a Cloud Atlas junket last year, for instance, she donned a tan blazer with a simple black top and sexy leather pants for a smart look.

Achieve Berry's fashion smarts with a few basic rules and some flattering and fun separates and jeans. Leather pants and a fabulous and formal dress are optional. "Less is more," Bey says. "Halle works out, and it shows. Decide what you want to accentuate and focus your fashion around your assets."
