We all have parts of our home that get neglected during our regular once-over cleanings. If you’re ready to tackle some spring cleaning, here are a few areas within your home that you may be neglecting. And don’t worry — you don’t need a bunch of harmful cleaning products to tackle those hidden places in the house. White vinegar, baking soda, and a little bit of time should get the job done in most cases.

1. Descale and deep clean coffee maker every three months
You likely use your coffee maker at least once per day, so it’s important to clean it periodically to ensure all moving parts are running effectively. Fill the reservoir with equal parts water and white vinegar, run the machine on brew to incorporate the solution. Brew another pot of plain water to rinse it out. You can use similar steps for deep cleaning your Keurig but check the manufacturer’s manual for specific methods. Between uses, leave the reservoir cover off when not in use to eliminate moisture buildup which is a breeding ground for bacteria and mold.

2. Clean kitchen sink drain and disposal to eliminate odors
To keep your disposal fresh and clean, you’ll need one part baking soda to two parts white vinegar — sprinkle the baking soda in the drain and then pour in the vinegar. Let it work its bubbly magic for about 10 minutes and then pour in boiling water to rinse. Clean the disposal or kitchen sink drain biweekly.

3. Residue, mineral deposits, and food can build up in your dishwasher
It’s important to clean and disinfect your dishwasher regularly to ensure you aren’t reintroducing bacteria to your dishes. Fill up a Pyrex measuring cup with white vinegar on the top rack. Clean inside the dishwasher with hot water on normal to descale and disinfect. Repeat this cleaning process twice a month or so.
