This year has been stressful for everyone, which means getting to spend a few days on vacation is more important than ever. Whether you’re just going away for a long weekend or finding time for a longer getaway, this year’s vacation should be fun — and safe! This summer, many people have found great ways to safely vacation; from camping, to staying at freshly cleaned hotels, to visiting national parks, there’s something for everyone. Here are some of our top tips for planning a safe family vacation this year:

Before choosing attractions/activities for your vacation, make sure to do some research to make sure the places you want to visit are taking serious safety measures for guests. The San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, for example, have implemented new safety precautions, including adding new hand sanitizing stations, limiting attendance, and enforcing social distancing guidelines. If you visit places like the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, you’re not just having a fun family outing, you’re also supporting wildlife conservation!

2. Pack your own food.

Right now, many people are avoiding going out to eat. In order to maintain safety (and save money!), pack your own food before going on vacation! Of course, you can always order food or do safe outdoor dining for some meals, but you’ll have many more options if you pack a cooler full of food before your trip.

3. Make an itinerary.

Even if you’re normally a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants vacationer, it’s worth making a detailed plan this year. While you don’t have to break down your plan hour-by-hour, you should make sure you have enough of a plan to avoid any sort of issues — with attractions limiting numbers of guests, restaurants having fewer tables available, and more people trying to spend time outside, you never know when you might run into new problems. Avoid some of these issues by doing your research and planning ahead!
