Significant Pain

Bug bites are part of summer. But we react differently depending on what, exactly, has bitten us. Most issues can be handled with anti-itch or anti-biotic creams. But some need more expert treatment. If that bite is causing you pain that supersedes your run-of-the-mill itching and discomfort, have your doctor take a look.
It's Swollen!

If that little bug bite swells up, it's probably safe to assume you need to have a doctor see it. Especially if an ice-pack doesn't reduce the inflammation.
Bruising

If you get bruising—and it's not from overly vigorous scratching—from a bite, it's a sign that bite could be serious. Make the call.
Swelling Past The Initial Area

A bite that swells past the initial bite area can be a sign that bite is more serious than a run of the mill bug bite. And a sign you should see a doctor, STAT!
Feeling Like Your Throat Is Closing

If a bug bite leaves you feeling like your throat is closing, or you can't catch enough air in your lungs, head to the doctor without hesitation.
Post Bite Chest Pain

Any post-bite chest pain should be taken seriously and should be treated by a doctor.
Persistent Racing Heartbeat

A bug bite shouldn't cause your heartbeat to elevate or race. If it does, head to the doctor and have it checked out.
Dizziness

Feeling dizzy after a bug bite? Go see a doctor—but maybe have someone else drive you.
Vomiting

You're Allergic

If you're allergic to bug bites, and you get bit, get to the doctor quickly.
The Bite Won't Heal

If that bite turns into an open sore that won't heal, it needs a doctor's attention.
A Red Target Shaped Rash

If you've been in a heavily wooded area and develop a red target shaped rash, there's a good chance you were bit by a tick. Since ticks carry Lyme Disease, it's important to have that bite checked out and treated by a doctor.
A Red Or Black Spotty Rash

In addition to Lyme Disease, ticks are also carriers of a bacterial infection called Rocky Mountain spotted fever. A telltale sign is a red or black spotty rash.
Fever

If you've been bit my a mosquito and develop a post-bite fever, see a doctor. Mosquitos are carries of a whole host of ailments and diseases that can present themselves within a few days or a few weeks of that initial bite. Yikes.
Chills

A mosquito bite followed by the chills means you should get yourself to a doctor quickly.
Joint Pain

Any kind of joint pain that follows a mosquito bite should be addressed by a doctor as it may be a sign that mosquito was carrying Dengue fever. Ugh.
Headache

What does it mean if you have a headache following a mosquito bite? It means you need to see a doctor, and quick!
Fatigue

A mosquito bite shouldn't leave you with fatigue. If it does, that tired feeling is a sign you need to see your doctor or get to the E.R.
Rash

If a bite turns into a rash, it's telling you to get to the doctor. And cover that rash up, just in case you're contagious. Eek.
Diahrrea

A bug bite shouldn't cause you to have to spend the day in the bathroom. If it does, go to the doctor immediately. A disease carrying mosquito can leave you with more than an itchy bite. It can make you really sick!
