How to Clean a Keyboard With Office Supplies

Step 1

Turn off the computer. Unplug the keyboard when possible.

Step 2

Dust the keyboard with a cloth or feather duster to remove loose dirt.

Step 3

Spray the keyboard with a can of compressed air. Hold the can of air 6 inches away from the keyboard, and spray in back-and-forth strokes, going from one side of the keyboard to the other.

Step 4

Moisten a cleaning cloth with rubbing alcohol. Make sure this is isopropyl, not ethyl, alcohol. Wipe the cloth over the keyboard, including between the keys. This will clean and kill bacteria.

Step 5

Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Rub the cotton swab between the keys of the keyboard. This will allow you to clean between keys more thoroughly.

Step 6

Wipe once more with a cloth or duster to remove any loosened debris, then plug the keyboard back in and turn the computer on.
