Get Organized, Save Time

Staying organized goes a long way in helping moms everywhere care for their families and their homes. After all, you spend enough time helping the kids (and spouses) track down their missing backpacks, homework and shoes. You can't afford to waste more of your precious time trying to find your necessities. Janine Godwin, a certified professional organizer with Nooks and Crannies Professional Organizing LLC in Houston, Texas, shares her favorite tools for keeping everything in its proper place.
Glass Containers With Lids

Glass containers are the ideal versatile home organizational tool. "They can be used in many areas of the home and look fabulous with any type of contents: dry food storage [rice, pasta] in a pantry with cute labels, in a craft room for small items [beads, buttons], in the bathroom [bath salts, cotton balls], even for those little collectible tchotchkes that you want to display on a shelf for décor purposes," Godwin says. "The sky's the limit."
Drop-Front Shoe Storage Boxes

These storage boxes, available at The Container Store, make it quick and easy to find what you need. The clear window allows for contents to be seen, Godwin says, and she says she likes the ease of opening to retrieve and put away shoes. Plus, she adds, they are stackable for space planning. "Your closet and shoes will love you for them—a sensible and decorative way to store shoes," Godwin says. The boxes come in a variety of sizes for shoe, sweater or handbag storage.

Fridge Binz

Kids always say they can't find what they want in the refrigerator, but Fridge Binz can help solve this problem. "They are available in a variety of sizes and uses—bins, beverage storage, etc.—and are very versatile," Godwin says. "They make food storage look cohesive and streamlined." They are great for small toy storage, craft room storage, bathrooms—anywhere you want clear storage to view contents, she adds.
Drawer Organizers by SKUBB

If you rifle through your drawers trying to find that matching sock, your favorite scarf or the kids' soccer guards, drawer organizers could make that time-waster go away. "The name says it all," Godwin says. "They keep the contents of drawers neat and accessible and come in a variety of sizes, styles and materials." Her personal favorite for dresser drawers to store clothing and undergarments are the SKUBB series by Ikea, she says. "They are definitely a huge organization plus for any home."
BOX4BLOX Lego Sorter

Stepping on Legos is a nightmare every parent tries to avoid but usually can't. The BOX4BLOX Lego Sorter can help turn the odds in the parents' favor. "This is a fabulous product to help sort and store Lego bricks," Godwin says. "I have recommended this product to every client who suffers from 'Lego-itis,' and they tell me it's the best product in their playroom."
Quattro Stagioni Spice Jars

To keep your spices fresh and organized, Godwin recommends the Quattro Stagioni Spice Jars from The Container Store. "I like these particular spice jars because spices bought in metal tins or plastic bags don't stay fresh for long, and transferring them into a glass jar definitely is a bonus," Godwin says. "These particular jars also have matching labels that can be purchased separately for a uniform look in any kitchen or pantry."

Whitmor Chrome and Canvas Four-Section Laundry Sorter

Tackling laundry seems like a never-ending chore for many parents. Whitmor's Chrome and Canvas Four-Section Laundry Sorter can't make it magically disappear, but it can make it easier to handle. "I love using a laundry sorter/hamper combination as it can be used in either a closet or laundry area," Godwin says. "In a closet, it eliminates the step of sorting clothing on laundry day as each bag is dedicated for a type of load. In the laundry area, it keeps the floor free from piles."
OXO Good Grips Lazy Susan Turntable

Regardless of where you are in the house, you'll be more likely to have what you need at your fingertips with an OXO Good Grips Lazy Susan Turntable. "They are great for use in a pantry or kitchen cabinet for tight corners or to access cooking oils, condiments and spices, or in a bathroom as cabinet storage for medications or makeup," Godwin says. She advises avoiding double-tier lazy Susans because it is difficult to get the contents in and out of the bottom tier.
Battery Storage Containers

Just about everyone has shared battery frustration, from searching for a battery and not finding one to finding them rolling around the junk drawer. Battery Storage Containers from the Container Store make this a non-problem. "I love these boxes for battery storage because it keeps everything handy and convenient," Godwin says. "They are a must for any household to tame battery chaos."
Index Advance Non-Slip Chopping Board Set

Avoiding cross-contamination while preparing dinner is important to every mom, and this set by Joseph Joseph makes that process much easier. "I like this set because it keeps the contents organized and can be placed on a countertop or inside a cabinet," Godwin says. "The four included cutting boards are color-coded for food prep safety, and they are dishwasher-safe, unlike traditional wood cutting boards."
