Zoe Saldana Shares Holiday Plans & the Game That Brings Her Family Together

Zoe and her husband, Marco Perego, have three children: twin boys, who are 8, and and a younger son, who is 6. As her kids have grown older, Zoe and Marco decided to introduce them to the world of video games. She enthusiastically shared, "We're so excited because now that our kids are 8 and 6, we started introducing them to the world of video games, and what better game to start them on than Nintendo Switch, the Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Pikmin 4, because they're safe, they're entertaining, and it's also multigenerational, so you can play with your kids."

For Zoe, playing these games with her children is not just a way to keep them entertained but also an opportunity to relive her own childhood memories. She explained, "And by playing these games, especially Super Mario Bros. Wonder, it takes me back to my years of being introduced to Nintendo and being introduced to the Super Mario Bros. games and how much I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it so much. So I'm living vicariously through them, but I'm doing it with them, and that becomes a very exciting thing."

One of the most remarkable aspects of Zoe's approach to gaming is her emphasis on family bonding. She highlighted, "So when you do indeed curate and control their screen time, when it's time to sort of take a break, we all do it together. It's not like I'm coming in and I'm taking something away from them."

During the holiday season, Zoe and her family have their own unique way of celebrating. She shared, "So the holidays are really about stepping back on the rules so there's less showers. Everybody's wandering around in their PJs, and it's all about making people feel their most comfortable selves so that we can just enjoy time together without any formalities that take away time from each other. So our kids, they really, really enjoy the fact that we're not harping on all the things that we would do on school nights, like homework and did you do your chores and shower and brush your teeth? And so it's literally PJs, hot cocoa, toys, and video games."

Zoe also revealed the pride she feels as a parent, knowing that her children appreciate her efforts. She stated, "I like to believe that they're very proud of me. I had parent-teacher [conferences] yesterday, and I heard the teachers just say, they're so proud of you guys. And they're always mentioning, 'My mom did this and my mom believes in this.' And that gave me such a boost of confidence because there are so many nights where I've gone to bed feeling like, 'Oh my God, I should have done everything better.' And I know it's a universal feeling from parents that truly care and are very committed. And so I know that they're proud of me."

Zoe's approach to the holidays is a heartwarming reminder that it's the simple moments of togetherness, whether through playing video games or wearing PJs all day, that truly make the season special. Her commitment to balancing family time, fun, and personal growth serves as an inspiring example for parents everywhere, reminding us that the holidays are about creating meaningful connections with loved ones.
