During an interview with NBC News, Kimberly Holland recalled her last conversation with Bowie.
“I thought that conversation, overall, was a conversation of new beginnings,” Holland told NBC News, adding that the Olympian had already purchased clothes for her baby girl.
Bowie's longtime agent said her friend was "just so happy" and excited about this new chapter in her life.
“I think that that would have been one of the most luckiest babies ever, because she had so much love to give,” she said.
Holland mentioned that she also talked to Bowie about prioritizing her health and diet during her pregnancy. She said that Bowie had “never been a really big eater.” At the time of her death, she weighed 96 pounds, an autopsy report revealed.
“I started to come off, I think, a little preachy, because she started to shut me down and she was like, ‘Miss Kim, the baby is fine.’ So that was my cue to leave it alone,” she added.
Holland also mentioned that Bowie didn't want to have her baby in a hospital.
“As an adult, you make your own decisions,” Holland said. “We probably would have handled everything differently to make sure everything was done properly.”
As Mom.com previously reported, one of Bowie's teammates took to Instagram to share a shocking and devastating statistic about their Olympic team.
"THREE (3) of the FOUR (4) of us who ran on the SECOND fastest 4x100m relay of all time, the 2016 Olympic Champions, have nearly died or died in childbirth," Tianna Madison said, referencing herself, Bowie, and Felix.
Felix also chimed in on the conversation, alluding that there's more work to be done around Black maternal health in the United States.
