Father-of-three Tom Brady recently opened up about just how much his job keeps him away from his kids. During a recent episode of his podcast, Let's Go! With Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald, and Jim Gray, the NFL quarterback lamented that his demanding career has made him miss a lot of moments with his children over the years.
The 44-year-old said he's not around much during the football season, which can be hard for his family
Tom — who has two children with his supermodel wife, Gisele Bündchen, and one child with his ex Bridget Moynahan — revealed that he has to rely on his downtime in order to carve out moments to connect with his kids. The quarterback said that he gets a "good healthy off-season," which allows him to have "a lot of time off" with his family.
The NFL operates on an 18-week season, which means Tom is traveling roughly four and a half months out of the year.
It seems like Gisele has a good system going while Tom is away
With Tom traveling so much, Gisele and the kids have learned to create routines without him. And it sounds like Tom worries about adjusting to them when he returns. "I try to do my best with the kids," he said. "Although I wish I was there more, but I think if I was there too much, you know, they might be sick and tired of me screwing up everything that's been going on in the house for a long time too."
Tom has talked about their balancing act before in past episodes
The NFL star is aware that his wife "handles a lot of responsibilities of the house during football season," which is why in the past he's said that he makes every effort to "balance it out a little more in the off-season."
Hopefully that means that Tom not only gives Gisele a bit of a break from being the sole parent while he's home between seasons, but that he gets to spend a lot more time bonding with his children.
Previously, Tom joked that he would continue playing well into his 50s, but he seems to be feeling a bit differently about things these days
It wasn't that long ago that Tom said he could see himself staying on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers well into retirement age, but these days he appears more interested in getting to spend his golden years with his kids instead.
"My physical body won't be the problem," Tom explained to Amazon Prime Video's Andrea Kremer and Hannah Storm during a recent game, according to People. "I think it'll just be, I'm just missing too much of life with my family."
Tom's oldest is already 14, so he may be realizing just how fast time is going.
Fans shouldn't worry that this means Tom is ready to announce his retirement
Don't worry Bucs fans: It doesn't sound like Tom is going anywhere just yet. The winningest quarterback in NFL history probably has a few more seasons left in him. However, based on what Tom said, we're willing to bet he plans to hang up his cleats sometime before his oldest turns 18.
