Now that her baby boy is here and the news is out, Paris Hilton is opening up about her experience becoming a mother. In an interview with Glamour UK, Paris revealed why she used a surrogate: It all comes down to her fear of childbirth.
Paris opened up about her surrogacy experience
Close friend Kim Kardashian, who has used a surrogate herself, was the one who helped Paris on this journey, which we now know brought her a healthy baby boy.
"I’m using the same doctor, Dr. Huang, who’s the best and he has a concierge team that deals with everything and interviews the [surrogate] to make sure that they’re healthy," she said.
She admitted to having a fear of childbirth
A lot of it goes back to the trauma she experienced at boarding school as a teenager. In 2021, she testified against the Provo Canyon School and the abuse she suffered there, and it seems like it's something she still carries with her to this day.
"I’m just so scared, I think, again, leading back to Provo of even being in a doctor’s office, just all of that. The shots, the IVs that they put in," she said. "When I was in The Simple Life, I had to be in a room when a woman was giving birth and that traumatized me as well. But I want a family so bad, it’s just the physical part of doing it."
"I’m just so scared … childbirth and death are the two things that scare me more than anything in the world," she admitted.
She opened up more about the abuse she suffered at school
"They [the staff] carried me into a room, threw me in there, took my clothes. And I don’t even know how long I was in there, I was just in hysterics, crying. There’s blood on the walls, feces, urine, only a drain. No windows. Crazy," she said of one incident where she was punished for not taking the pills she'd been prescribed.
Now she finds hope in being a voice for those in similar situations.
"I feel most empowered when I’m doing my advocacy work, knowing that I can be the hero I always needed when I was a little girl," she said.
She finally revealed her baby boy's face and name on Thursday
For the first time, Paris shared a family photo featuring her, husband Carter Reum, and their baby boy. And on an episode of her "This Is Paris" podcast, she also revealed his name: Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum as a tribute to her late grandfather.
"He was always my mentor. I looked up to my grandfather so much, and we were so close, and I miss him every day," she said. "So, I really wanted to honor him by having his name in my first son's name."
This likely won't be the only baby for Paris
In the Glamour UK interview, she revealed that all of the embryos she and Carter have made so far are boys, but she's still holding out hope that a baby girl might be possible in the future.
For now, though, it looks like she's in total newborn bliss with baby Phoenix. It's such a special time for her and her family.
