Oscars Photo Showing Trash-Filled Seats Sparks Debate Over Who Was Responsible

Since I was a kid, one of my dreams is to attend an Oscar ceremony. While I’ve never been to the show, I have been to the area where it takes place many times. Those who don’t live in Los Angeles probably don’t realize that the Dolby Theater is inside of a giant outdoor mall and it’s used for regular performances every other day of the year. And they may not know people can attend as seat fillers, which sounds like a fun way to enjoy the show. After this year’s ceremony, some Oscar attendees are going viral for the way the theater looked when they left.

The picture looked pretty typical if you’ve been to a movie theater.

Matt Neglia, a critic, editor-in-chief, and podcaster, attended this year’s Oscar ceremony and shared a picture of the aftermath on his X account. In the picture, you can see rows of seats with food boxes, trash, and water bottles strewn about.

“Clean up on aisle ALL,” Neglia wrote.

Until I saw this photo, I didn’t even know that there was food given at the Oscar ceremony. I guess it makes sense though since people like seat fillers and other guests are sitting for long periods of time with nothing to do. Celebrities have never been shown eating during the ceremony though.

People immediately began taking celebrities to task for the alleged mess.

They wasted no time assuming the celebrity Oscar attendees were the ones who made the mess, claiming that people who are famous should know better.

“The kind of people who expect others to clean up after them. Unseen and unthanked,” one comment read.

“Classic example of money can’t buy class,” someone added.

“‘Let’s use no plastic. Keep our oceans clean. Help the climate….bla bla bla’ But see where they sat for few hours. Goes to show you how performance most of these speeches are,” another person wrote.

“For people dressed in millions of dollars, they sure left the place looking like a movie theater after a Marvel premiere,” someone else shared. “Proof that wealth doesn’t automatically come with manners.”

“The Elites makes the mess and the lower class clear it after them, it has always been like that and I don’t think it’s gonna change.”

Others made an observation about the Oscar attendees that likely created the mess.

If you take a good look at the point of view Neglia took the picture from, you can see down to more seats. That means that it’s likely he wasn’t even sitting among the celebrities in attendance.

“If I’m not mistaken, Aren’t these where the families and not really famous people sit????? Cause NO way,” one person wrote.

Someone else echoed the thought, writing “I don’t think the celebrities sit in the balcony…”

Another user was a little more blunt, writing “y’all are so stupid this isn’t even where the celebrities sat.”

“This isn’t where the celebrities and stars sit correct? This is the family, general audiences, general academy member seating area correct?” someone asked.

“Not excusing this, but those are often the families the +ones extended extended guests-show us the seats/rows at the front/main level. I want to see if they’re the same.”
