Nick Cannon Admits He Began His ‘Celibacy Journey’ After Conceiving His Eighth Child

Family man Nick Cannon recently revealed that he has been reconsidering his original desire to have as many children as God planned for him. On a recent episode of his talk show, the father of eight spoke out about his uncommon reproductive choices, telling fans that he'd actually taken a vow of celibacy for a short time. And evidently, that vow was driven by learning the news that he had yet another baby on the way.

Nick initially announced his celibacy plans in October 2021

He told his viewers that he intended to step back from his original plan of continuing to grow his family. But what nobody knew at the time was that the real reason Nick wanted to slow down was because he had just found out that he was about to become a father for the eighth time.

Baby No. 8 is going to be another boy

Model Bre Tiesi is currently carrying Nick's newest child, who — as Nick explained on his show on Tuesday — was conceived before he took his vow of celibacy. "My therapist was one of the [people] who said I should probably be celibate, and the reason why is because I had shared that news about Bre being pregnant," the 41-year-old told his viewers.

"That was the reason why I started my celibacy journey back then. So for anyone who is thinking, 'Oh, he wasn't celibate,' I was!"

The pregnancy news came while Nick was dealing with a tragic diagnosis

Nick shocked fans when his show came back from Thanksgiving break last year with a devastating announcement. He revealed to his viewers that his infant son Zen, who he shared with model Alyssa Scott, had died.

It sounds like Nick received Zen's heartbreaking diagnosis around the same time that Bre told him she's expecting. On Tuesday, he said he "didn't know what to do" when he found out the news, and that he was trying to "get a grasp" on his life.

Celibacy seemed to be the answer at the time

Nick decided to take his therapist's advice. "I felt like I was out of control, and honestly celibacy did help me through the journey of getting one with myself and being able to deal with this," he said, adding that he almost made it to his New Year's goal.

Nick had about two solid months of alone time, which was enough for him to clear his head and refocus.

There aren't any other Cannon children in the works at the moment

While Nick has given up on his celibacy vow, it doesn't appear that he is planning any more babies at this moment. He has been very vocal about wanting to spend more quality time with the kids he already has, so maybe he's decided to pause his ambitions of further growing his family for the time being.
