Plenty of parents disagree about the right age to let their kids have a cell phone — including exes Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey. In an old episode of his daytime show, Nick admitted he snuck his twins phones against Mariah's wishes.
On the show, Nick said he and Mariah had always disagreed about the right time for Monroe and Moroccan to have phones
According to Nick, he was totally cool with giving in when they were 8 and asked for phones, but Mariah was dead set against it.
"I was all for it, but Mariah was like, 'Uh huh, they aren't going to be googling us, learning about all their new brothers and sisters, no, we aren't playing,'" he said.
They agreed that at 10, the twins could have a phone, but when the time came, Mariah changed her mind
That's when Nick decided to be sneaky and got the kids phones anyway as a birthday gift … and no, Mariah was not happy about it.
"We had this amazing party with jump jumps, their friends came, it was so amazing. Then [when] it was time to open the gifts, I was like, 'I'm going to leave these right here and tell your mama I'll be back,'" he said. "Mariah is still mad at me till this day."
Yikes. We would not want to be on her bad side!
This was a pretty recent argument
Monroe and Moroccan celebrated their birthday on April 30, which Mariah celebrated with a sweet video on her Instagram page. She didn't mention anything about the cell phone feud at the time, but maybe she's just been privately stewing about it.
It's hard to blame Mariah for not wanting her kids to have phones
She's right — there's a lot out there about her and Nick that they could easily find out on Google that they may not be ready to explain to their children just yet.
Besides, 10 is still so young, and once phones have been given out, it's hard to take them back!
It'll be interesting to see if Nick follows suit with his other children
Along with his twins with Mariah, Nick is also dad to Golden, 4, along with babies Powerful Queen, Zen, and twins Zion and Zillion, who are all under the age of one (though that's a controversy in and of itself).
Cell phones for everyone at 10 — or will it be younger than that? We can't wait to find out.
