King Charles Will Be Hospitalized Next Week for a Routine Prostate Procedure

It was announced on Wednesday that King Charles will be hospitalized next week to receive treatment for an enlarged prostate. The procedure is fairly common among men around the same age as the king, who is 75. This news comes shortly after an announcement that his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, also underwent a medical procedure that requires hospitalization.

Buckingham Palace called the procedure "common"

In their statement, Buckingham Palace said that the king is getting treatment "in common with thousands of men each year," adding that his condition is "benign." They added that his hospital visit is for "corrective procedure."

The king wants to be an example for others

A royal source told CNN that the king shared his diagnosis as a way to encourage other men who are possibly having symptoms to also seek treatment based on public health advice.

Due to the nature of the procedure, the palace shared that any public engagements for the sovereign will be postponed for a short period.

King Charles isn't the only royal in the hospital

It was also announced on Wednesday that Kate Middleton underwent a "planned abdominal surgery" on Tuesday. Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales will remain hospitalized for 10 to 14 days before going home to recover. According to their statement, she will likely not return to public duties until after Easter.

They also issued an apology

"The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise [sic] to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible," the statement concluded.
