Her baby hasn't even arrived yet, but Kelly Osbourne is already dealing with mom shamers. In a new interview, the former reality TV star opened up about how her family and friends have been criticizing her over her decision not to breastfeed her baby when she gives birth later this year.
Kelly stepped in as a guest host on 'Red Table Talk' on Wednesday
Chatting with Jada Pinkett Smith, the 37-year-old — who is expecting her first child with boyfriend Sid Wilson — revealed that an early parenting decision has ruffled the feathers of those close to her. "I have chosen to stay on my medication instead of breastfeeding, and the judgment that I have received from my friends and also extended family [is wild]," Kelly explained.
Kelly takes medication to help with her mental health
The Osbournes alum has been very candid about her struggles with alcohol and drugs and has shared how she became addicted to heroin as a teen due in small part to her anxiety and depression. These days, she takes medication to keep her mental health in balance, which is why she's so reluctant to stop.
The expectant mom said this hasn't stopped friends and family from giving her grief
According to Kelly, those close to her continue to make hurtful comments when they hear the news, with some even telling her that she's "gonna miss out on that bonding period" if she doesn't breastfeed her baby. However, mom knows best, and Kelly said she's not letting anyone else's opinion about her personal choices get her down.
Even though she knows she's doing the right thing, the words still sting
While Kelly confessed that she does get irritated by the comments about missing out on that quality time with her baby-to-be, she can't help her situation. "I'm like, 'Don't you think I know that?'" she said of the responses she gets. "What kind of mother am I gonna be if I start going backward, if I start being self-destructive?"
Kelly is choosing to ignore the judgment
Though she said she's developed a thick skin over the years, she's discovered that she "can't pay attention" to other people's thoughts. Instead, she plans on doing what's best for her and her growing family.
It sounds like Kelly already has this mom thing down. We're sure she and Sid will make great parents!
