20 Times Kate Middleton Coordinated Outfits With Daughter Charlotte

One of the best parts of having a little girl are all of the cute kids clothes we can dress them in. Boys’ clothes can be cute, too, but there’s just something about all of the options girls have that makes dressing them up so much fun. That certainly seems to be how Kate Middleton feels, because she almost always matches her outfit to what Princess Charlotte is wearing.

Of course, Kate has a stylist who probably helps with the children’s clothing, too, but the matchy-matchy attire happens so frequently that it seems to be Kate’s choice to coordinate clothing with her daughter. Sometimes, the Duchess will go low-key and only match her accessories — like her hat, jewelry, bag, or shoes — to Charlotte’s outfit. Other times, Kate will go full out with the matching color schemes. Check out these 20 times that Charlotte was Kate’s style mini-me.

Matching from the beginning

Kate started off her coordination game early. Her yellow ombre dress fades to white toward the bottom, which gives the illusion that the baby blanket is actually becoming part of her outfit. Where does Charlotte’s blanket end and Kate’s dress begin?

Charlotte's christening

All three of Kate’s kids have gotten christened in the same long, cream lace gown, and Kate has matched all of them in a white or cream ensemble herself. Things were no different for Charlotte’s christening in July 2015. It’s the perfect color palette for the day.

Skiing in style

During a family skiing holiday in the French Alps, Kate and her family posed for this photo. As with Charlotte’s christening day, Kate matched the two of them in white and cream jackets, while the boys opted for darker blue tones. Of course, Charlotte gets to stand out a bit from her mom in her cute pink hat.

For Charlotte’s first balcony appearance at the annual Trooping the Colour parade, Kate dressed her daughter in a soft pink dress. Kate’s own outfit is white, but she matched her blush-colored hat to Charlotte’s gown to keep things coordinated.

Shades of blue

During a tour of Canada, Kate went with a dark blue dress for herself and a light blue frock for Charlotte. But she put Charlotte in darker blue shoes to match her own dress. Kate may not be the Queen of England but she is the queen of outfit coordination.

Red is the perfect Christmastime color, and Kate definitely got that memo for Charlotte’s first holiday church appearance. Kate then matched Charlotte’s red tights, dress, and bow to her own red purse.

Wedding coordination

The credit for Kate’s blush dress matching Charlotte’s blush bow should probably go to Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton — it was Pippa’s wedding after all. The younger Middleton sister likely decided on the color scheme, and Kate and Charlotte just stuck to it.

Still cute, though — no matter whose idea it was.

For the 2017 Trooping the Colour parade, Kate went uber-feminine with both her look and little Charlotte’s. They are both so gorgeous in the bright pink shade. It was the perfect choice for the late spring event.

A quick trip to Germany and Poland provided a peek at this adorable matchy-matchy look. Kate’s coat dress and Charlotte’s floral one are both beautiful shades of blue, and we love that Kate even had Charlotte’s little bow match, too.

Sneaky match

At first sight, mother and daughter couldn’t be dressed more differently: Kate is in a white dress and Charlotte is in a red frock with a red bow. But upon closer inspection, the gem in Kate’s necklace is also the same shade of red as Charlotte’s dress.

Kate may have gone with a small coordinated detail on this one, but it’s still there. She just can’t seem to help herself.

Shades of lilac

This isn’t an outright match as much as it is a color palette coordination. There are shades of pinks and purples in Charlotte’s spotted dress that make it pop but also complement Kate’s soft lilac getup.

Blue Christmas

Kate coordinated the whole family for their 2017 Christmas card. Blue isn’t traditionally a holiday color — but they all look so chic together! The photo was taken earlier in the year, which may explain its lack of festiveness, but it still has the Duchess’ signature color coordination amongst her, her daughter, and her whole family.

Wearing white to a wedding

This is another matching scenario that was probably the bride’s decision and not Kate’s. Both Charlotte and Kate wore white to Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry. Charlotte was actually in the wedding, so Meghan specifically picked her dress. We can’t imagine Kate wouldn’t have run the decision to also wear white by Meghan first, otherwise.

On the flip side, both Prince William and Prince George wore black to match Prince Harry, so there was a little coordination on both sides of the family that day.

Sunglasses and sundresses

The colors aren’t exact in these outfits, but Kate did go with a similar pastel palette for the breezy sundresses that she and Charlotte wore to a polo match in 2018. We love that Charlotte also has a pair of sunglasses, like her mom. Little kids in little sunglasses will never not be adorable.

Summertime blues

For the 2018 Trooping of Colour celebration, Kate and Charlotte both sported light-blue outfits. Notice that Prince George also has light-blue piping on his shirt. Kate really went down to the nitty-gritty details on this one when she decided to match both her kids.

Polka-dot princesses

This is less of an exact match, but Kate and Charlotte both wore polka-dot, collared dresses to Prince Charles’ birthday. Charlotte’s is a little lighter in hue, but the style inspiration is clear.

It’ll be interesting to see if, when Charlotte grows up, she sticks to some of the same style staples that her mother dresses her in now.

Denim for days

The 2018 Cambridge Christmas card was a little more laid back than other years. Kate and Will even wore jeans! Of course, Kate also coordinated Charlotte’s outfit with hers, putting her daughter in a jean skirt for the family photo.

Pastel pink picnic

For a July picnic during a polo match this past year, Kate donned a pretty floral pink dress. She dressed Charlotte in a flower-patterned pink frock, as well. The little princess was in a slightly paler pink, but the color-coordination effect was the same — right down to Charlotte’s pink hair bow.

First day of school

Charlotte and George have to wear uniforms to school, so Kate didn’t have much say in what Charlotte wore for her first day. Instead, Kate decided to don the school colors with her own dress choice. She opted for a pretty flower-patterned navy and red dress and navy heels to highlight the uniforms her children wore.

Matchy Christmas

Kate and Will brought the kids to Christmas mass this past December, and Kate matched all of her accessories (down to her shoes!) with Charlotte’s forest-green coat. Picking coordinating purses, hats, or shoes is one of Kate’s favorite things to do when she goes anywhere with Charlotte.
