There are so many teenage or adult children of celebrities now that nepo babies are almost unavoidable in the entertainment world. But, according to Jay-Z, his eldest daughter with wife Beyoncé, Blue Ivy Carter, has not been given everything she wants. In fact, she has earned her spots on her mom’s tours. At least, according to Jay-Z.
He spoke with GQ about Blue Ivy’s talent as a performer, and fans have seen her pop up during multiple tours that Beyoncé went on to promote her music. Blue Ivy has not headlined her own tours, of course, but Jay-Z said that his daughter deserves her role as one of Beyoncé’s dancers, even if people are still hardcore judging him and Beyoncé for it.

You don’t have to be a Beyoncé fan to have seen clips of Blue Ivy dancing on-stage with her mom during some of her tours. With parents like Beyoncé and Jay-Z, you have to expect that at least one of their nepo babies would have some stage presence. And, in the past, people have had mixed feelings about Blue ivy as a performer, given her leg up in the industry. Despite what dad Jay-Z has now said.
In a Reddit thread about Blue Ivy performing the choreographed moves of Beyoncé’s backup dancers during her “Cowboy Carter” tour, users shared their thoughts on Bey’s daughter being a performer now.
“Man, her progress from the last tour is insane,” someone commented. “You can tell she has her Mama in her with that work ethic. She’s going to be a probbbbbbblem in a few years. Can’t wait to see it. “
Another person, however, added, “She is an exploited influencer child. People fail to see it because they idolize Beyoncé.”
“This child is 13,” another user agreed. “I’m sure Beyoncé has tutors for her and all that but let’s be real, touring and rehearsing at that level is a full time job. It just seems like they’re setting her up for this life in showbusiness and nothing else.”
I mean, there is no denying that Blue Ivy has the talent for performing. But what some see as a torch being passed from Beyoncé to her eldest child, others see as a kid not only starting in the business from a very young age, but also being able to use her advantages to skip a few steps in paying any of her dues.
Jay-Z claims Blue Ivy earns what is given to her.
Jay-Z told GQ that, despite what people think of Blue Ivy’s advantages in the entertainment business, nothing is handed to her outright. She is also a talented pianist, per Jay-Z.
“On the first tour there was a lot of conversation around her first performance, and she worked really hard to get to that point, but she still wasn’t going for it,” he told the outlet. “She still was going through the motions. And then she just started fighting back. I saw her fight maybe for the first time in her life, like, not everything is just given to her and everything is easy. She fought for it.”
Just because Jay-Z says that, though, is that what people believe? There are still plenty of naysayers when it comes to nepo baby Blue Ivy. Even if she does work hard for her career ahead of her, the pull that comes with mentioning either of her parents by name is unmatched.

Blue Ivy is a child and, because of that, some critics prefer not to insult her too much, especially since she is old enough to see criticism online and on social media. But there are those who can’t help themselves. They see a nepo baby reaping the benefits of being the child of rap royalty like Jay-Z and they pounce on them.
“I’ve seen so much about Blue Ivy joining Beyoncé on stage and dancing with her crew,” one such critic wrote on Reddit, with very little shame. “There’s so much praise out there and they’re like, wow she’s a star!! She’s amazing!!!! I am not impressed at all, she is a nepo baby who gets to practice with the highest level of dancers and choreographers and has an unlimited budget and practice time.”
Someone responded, “Entirely agree and I’ll go one step further: it’s a disservice to put her on stage and in the public eye when she’s so clearly not ready.”
Other users in the same thread agreed that Blue Ivy hasn’t “earned it.” There are some who came to her defense and pointed out that “she’s just a kid.” But when it comes to the kids of super famous celebrities, apparently, it’s never too early to dog them hard.
