It's been almost three months since Halsey welcomed their first child into the world, and now the singer is getting real about what their body looks like after birth. In a series of photos they shared on Instagram, Halsey shared their postpartum body in an effort to shatter the "illusion" about bouncing back after having a baby.
Halsey shared a gallery of photos of their stomach after giving birth
It included the bump that still exists, even after there's no baby in there, stretch marks, and disposable underwear that many of us are all too familiar with — all things that many people who have given birth before know all about.
"I am posting this because no matter what I do people are going to talk about my body," Halsey began. "It is confusing symptom of being in the public eye so rather than complain I am going to give you something real to talk about!"
This all stemmed from their appearance on 'SNL' over the weekend
Halsey wrote that they received a lot of compliments about how good they looked on the show, which made them uncomfortable — especially since, right now, they are too busy playing with their "darling son" to worry about working out.
"The body behind all those compliments the other night was wearing a custom tailored outfit and lighted perfectly after much testing, so I could feel good and do my job," they explained. "I do not want to feed the Illusion that you’re meant to feel and look 'great' immediately postpartum. That is not my narrative currently."
They went on to explain that they're embracing the changes in their body
"I will never have my 'pre baby body back' no matter how it changes physically because I have now had a baby! And that has altered me forever; emotionally, spiritually, and physically," Halsey continued. "That change is permanent. And I don’t want to go back! But in the spirit of honesty, I’m really tired and not a superhuman and this is really hard."
This is something that many new parents have felt — Halsey definitely isn't the only one.
Halsey has been all about keeping it real since their son was born
Back in July, Halsey and partner Alev Aydin welcomed son Ender Ridley into the world, and since then, they've been all about sharing their journey into first-time parenthood, even in the midst of releasing a new album.
It's all very impressive, to say the least.
Good for Halsey for sharing this piece of reality with fans
As a new parent — or a parent in general — it can be hard to see other people's highlight reels on social media when you're struggling, especially if you follow celebrities who make the postpartum time look easy. But thankfully, there are also people like Halsey, who are honest about what they're going through every step of the way.
