Da Brat opened up about the slim pickings the couple encountered when they began their IVF journey and how that prompted them to decide to move forward with a biracial pregnancy.

Da Brat talked to 'The Root' about her and Judy's IVF experience
The 49-year-old rapper spoke about her wife's pregnancy, revealing that the couple struggled when it came time to pick the perfect sperm donor to start their family. She explained that the screening process narrowed down their possible pool of candidates to 300 after taking genetics into consideration. Of those 300, only one potential donor was Black.
Unfortunately for the couple, that one person wasn't quite what they had in mind

"And that [dude] looked like Jiminy Cricket. I was like, 'I'm sorry, but that wasn't gonna be my choice," she told the magazine (she also reiterated that on her reality series, Brat Loves Judy). Instead, the pair picked a donor who they thought would be a better fit.
They choose someone who's a bit easier on the eyes
Da Brat detailed some of the physical qualities of their chosen donor while revealing that their son-on-the-way will be biracial. "Because we didn't have a lot to choose from, he definitely wasn't Black," she said of their donor. "But I think we did a great job with picking. He's handsome, he's tall, and I think he's going to look beautiful with my wife's egg."
The decision caused some backlash
Critics accused Da Brat and Judy of picking a donor who met their aesthetics instead of selecting one who would make the most sense for their family, saying the couple "didn't want a brown baby."
Now the two are using the opportunity to educate people, with Judy explaining the statistics in the comments section of gossip website Baller Alert.

Judy broke down the numbers while telling people that more support from the community is needed to increase the Black donor pool
"Black men make up less than 5% of the donation pool," Judy wrote in part, adding that genetic testing further limits those numbers. "Hopefully this headline that people are running with will educate more people that there's a HUGE gap in the sperm pool. Everyone have a great rest of your day," she concluded.
While we're not sure whether Judy's explanation will help boost those donor numbers, it does seem to have silenced the couple's critics — and sometimes that's all you can hope for!
