Cory Wharton's fans are breathing a huge sigh of relief, as The Challenge and Teen Mom OG star revealed on Wednesday that he had finally brought his 7-month-old daughter home from the hospital. Everyone has been anxiously following little Maya's story after learning that she suffered a serious complication during her planned open-heart surgery on January 4.
Cory shared his good news on Instagram
He posted a series of photos before announcing that Maya had finally come home.
"I'm so thankful — these past two weeks have been very up and down and have felt like a nightmare at times," he wrote in his grateful tribute. "But I always try to stay positive and being at the Children's Hospital for two weeks and seeing some families who have been there for months or years and some maybe won't leave the hospital. I'm very thankful that we got released today."
He also went into a bit more detail about what went wrong following his daughter's operation
Maya had gone into the hospital for a planned Glenn procedure, the first of two surgeries she was set to have due to her congenital heart condition. Cory explained that her surgery had been a success, but during the recovery everything changed. "Maya's oxygen levels were lower than the doctors wanted it to be," he said, before adding that his daughter had to have a second smaller procedure done six days later to try and fix her levels.
"Trying to get her off the ventilator the second time around was a lot harder," he continued. "After this roller-coaster ride of emotions, I'm just happy and thankful to be home."
Fans were crushed when they learned that Maya had suffered a setback in the hospital

Shortly after Maya's surgery, Cory told his fans that she had suffered complications during her procedure, requiring her to remain sedated and on a ventilator longer than her medical team had anticipated. Friends, family, and fans all rallied around Cory and girlfriend Taylor Selfridge as they kept vigil by their daughter's bedside. We can't even imagine how terrifying this all has been for the couple, but we're so glad to see there's a happy ending to this story.
We're not the only ones happy to hear about this positive development
Cory's followers were quick to celebrate the big win of Maya's homecoming, jumping into the comments section to cheer on both the little girl and her worried dad.
"So happy to hear the news," fellow MTV star Aneesa Ferreira wrote. "Little mama is a fighter. Still sending up those prayers."
Maya has at least one more procedure to go
She is expected to undergo another surgery between the ages of 3 and 4 to help alleviate some of the symptoms that come with her tricuspid atresia diagnosis.
We're hopeful that her next open-heart procedure will go much more smoothly and that Maya's days of spending weeks in the hospital will be long behind her by then.
