Breastfeeding is never easy, and as many moms of more than one child know, every baby is different. But it sounds like Chrissy Teigen's nursing experience with her newborn daughter, Esti, is going pretty smoothly so far. And according to the model and cookbook author, the fact that she's able to breastfeed in the first place continues to surprise her, since she underwent not one but two breast lift procedures.
Chrissy and husband John Legend welcomed their third child in January
Chrissy announced Esti's arrival with this sweet picture of older children Miles and Luna lovingly holding their new sister. Welcoming a new family member was likely a healing moment for John and Chrissy, who endured the tragic loss of their son Jack in September 2020 when Chrissy suffered a placental abruption 20 weeks into her pregnancy.
Chrissy was determined to breastfeed Esti just like she did with her older kids
She had positive experiences nursing both Miles and Luna and hoped she'd have the same success with Esti. "Luna and Miles latched immediately. Esti latched immediately. If anything, it was like me that was like, 'I need to produce this,'" she told People. "I love pumping and I love trying to make as much milk as possible."
She said she's still amazed she's able to breastfeed after two surgical procedures
"I'm surprised I have a drop of milk," she admitted. "I've done the [breast] lift augmentation twice. The fact that my nipple came off and was sewn back on, and I still have milk is incredible to me."
She said she feels "so lucky" to have these experiences with all three of her kids.
Still, she does have to supplement with formula
And it's something that she's totally at peace with and urges other moms not to "drive themselves crazy over."
"I mean, Luna and Miles are thriving, and they're great, and they were fed, and the most important thing is a fed baby. I used to be so scared, like, 'Oh, my God, they're not getting milk.' I used to try to order donor milk online and freak myself out about everything. Not this time," she explained.
Chrissy recently shared that becoming a mom of three has brought her new confidence
Now that she's navigating her third go-around caring for a baby, she's taking things in stride and not sweating the small things. "Confidence is everything with it," she told People of going from two kids to three. "You're just not so on edge and worried."
And when it comes to other people trying to push parenting advice on her or worse, shaming her for her choices, she's completely unbothered. "You don't take parenting advice from everybody like before. I do not accept being shamed about anything," she said.
"A lot of people think that they're experts on everything, but when you have three of something like that, you know [what you're doing]. I mean, we've seen everything happen. We've dealt with the stitches. We've had a toe almost come off. We've had broken bones. We've seen it all."
