Ashlee Simpson Reflects on 20 Years Since ‘Autobiography,’ Life as a Mom, and Sweet Treats

Ashlee Simpson, the multitalented singer, actress, and mother, is back in the spotlight, and she’s got some exciting news to share. This summer, Ashlee is reflecting on motherhood and what it means to write your autobiography as she celebrates the 20th anniversary of her debut album. To celebrate the monumental occasion, she teamed up with Dairy Queen to promote the return of the fan-favorite Brownie Batter Blizzard, a treat that reminds her of her childhood and being on tour. The mom of three says the nostalgia of it all makes motherhood much sweeter.

“It’s such a fun time to look back with my kids and reflect on mommy’s old music,” the singer said. “And my daughters are definitely like, ‘I would like to sing that with you.’”

Ashlee said while her daughters are eager to sing along to some of her throwback hits, it’s also been a perfect time to introduce her kids to her favorite “melt in your mouth” ice cream Brownie Batter Blizzard from Dairy Queen.

“My kids have been introduced to it and they like the Frosted Animal Cookie one,” she said, also reflecting on the simple joys of her own childhood summer as her kids are out of school currently. Ashlee said her family’s summer so far has been filled with getting outside and enjoying classic childhood favorites like swimming, water balloons, and of course, ice cream. She said they also plan to travel a bit this summer.

In addition to her Dairy Queen partnership, Ashlee continues to share her gratitude for her singing career as she leans into her most important role: being a mom. She said she’s focused on enjoying the little moments with her family because “everything goes so fast.” But she’s also prioritizing self-care, something she recommends for all moms.

Ashlee said she prefers to exercise and move her body before tapping into mom duties, although she admits that lately it has been a challenge since her son wakes up early. But she’s looking forward to getting back into the studio and making music.

“I think it’s nice having my kids and people that believe in me and I’m excited for that,” Ashlee said. “I’m excited for that.”
