There's some good news on the horizon that we could all use right now courtesy of Netflix. The company has just renewed one of our favorite shows, Sweet Magnolias, for a second season — and all our favorites are returning.
It's time to break out the margaritas
According to Deadline, the best friends from fictional Serenity, South Carolina, are back for another season of adventures. Maddie (played by JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (played by Brooke Elliot), and Helen (played by Heather Headley), are all returning and we're certain it's going to be another great ride as they try to find a balance in their relationships, careers, and family life in their small town.
'Sweet Magnolias' is everything we want and need in a new show right now
The show, based on a popular series of novels written by Sherryl Woods, is as The Hollywood Reporter calls it, a "Hallmark-esque romantic drama."
And that's what we all need in our lives. Especially at a time when getting together with our best friends isn't as simple as it was in the past, now we can live vicariously through these three women and the adventures that follow.
There's no date on when to expect the premiere of season 2 yet
With the worldwide health crisis still raging on, there's no official start date for the second season of Sweet Magnolias.
“That's a reflection of not having our production date nailed down yet,” showrunner and executive producer Sheryl Anderson explained to Glamour. “I don't know how to do this show without kissing, so we want to make sure everybody is safe and feels comfortable returning to the passion of Serenity.”
The last season left viewers with a cliffhanger
The first season of Sweet Magnolias was a surprise hit on Netflix, and with the cliffhanger at the end of that season, viewers are excited to see what's going to happen next. And the cast and crew are looking forward to it as well.
“I'm thrilled and excited to come back with a cast and a crew that I love so much," Sheryl said to Glamour. "It’s such a valentine to everybody who worked so hard to make Serenity such a beautiful place. JoAnna, Brooke, and Heather and I were jumping up and down while texting each other, and we look forward to doing that over Zoom too."
“I’m so humbled and flattered by the way people have opened their hearts to these characters and this community and what they stand for,” she added.
Stay tuned — sounds like we'll get to pour it out once again!
