Ashlee Simpson Jokes About the Time a Waiter Mistakenly Offered Her Son a Glass of Wine

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson's son, Bronx, is all grown up. At least that's how it appears to strangers, according to the proud mom. Ashlee appeared on Jennifer Hudson's talk show and she recounted the time when a waiter once mistook her 14-year-old for an adult and offered the teen a glass of wine.

Ashlee said that she and her family were sitting down to watch a movie when it happened

The gang was spending some quality time together when an overly hospitable waiter tried to give Bronx alcohol. "I'm sitting next to Bronx, and Evan is on [the other] side, and we're at one of those movies where they offer you wine or something, and they were like, 'Oh, sir [to Bronx], would you like something?'" she recalled.

The mother of three quickly corrected the waiter's mistake

While some people may have taken the moment as a compliment — after all, Ashlee doesn't look old enough to have a teenage son — she rushed to let the waiter know that there would be no booze for her seatmate. "He's not my friend — well, he's my friend, but this is my kid, my 14-year-old son," she explained to the staff.

It sounds like an honest mistake to us

All you need to do is look at some of the family pictures that Ashlee has posted in the recent past to understand how something like this could happen. Even Ashlee had a good laugh about the moment when she shared it with Jennifer, marveling at just how quickly her oldest child has grown up.

Bronx is taller than his mother these days

"He's, like, 5'9" — he towers over me," Ashlee said. "He's really chill, though, so I'm lucky for that."

Then Ashlee — who also has a 7-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son with current husband Evan Ross — took a moment to praise Bronx for his wonderful disposition, saying that he's been a good kid "so far" before laughing and sending a message directly to her son. "Stay that way, bro."

Ashlee split from Bronx's dad in 2011

Ashlee and Pete, who is best known as the bassist from Fall Out Boy, married in 2008 but divorced just three years later as he struggled to find his way after his band went on hiatus. These days, though, it seems like the two exes have a good co-parenting relationship — and that'll likely come in clutch as Bronx continues to get offered wine at events!
