Andy Cohen Talks About What It’s Like Being the Only Gay Single Parent at His Son’s School

Bravo’s Andy Cohen recently got candid about his parenting journey, opening up to a live audience at the 92nd Street Y in New York about what it means to be a single father of two. The TV personality was joined by his friend and CNN host Anderson Cooper, and the two chatted about the realities of being gay men with kids in the city.

Andy was promoting his new book when he shared his thoughts

The 54-year-old was promoting The Daddy Diaries: The Year I Grew Up with his pal Anderson, according to People.

“I’m the only gay parent at Ben’s nursery school and the only single parent, which is amazing, and I’m so grateful for our friendship because Ben sees Wyatt [Anderson’s son] with two dads, and Ben’s other friend, Adrian, has two dads,” Andy told Anderson.

Ben is so aware of different family dynamics that he's recently started asking for another daddy

Apparently, the little boy has made a special request of his dad. According to Andy, “[Ben] has been saying lately, ‘I want another daddy, I want another daddy.’ And it’s so cool to me that he knows that it would be a daddy.”

“My son has excellent gaydar, what can I say?” he joked.

But Andy said there are bigger struggles facing him at home

The Watch What Happens Live host has two children — 4-year-old Ben and 12-month-old Lucy — and an audience member at Tuesday’s event was curious about what the biggest shock was when Andy became a father.

“Everything,” he responded, before revealing that he puts “extra pressure on himself as a single parent to be everything, and you know that you can’t necessarily [do that].”

He wasn't the only one to get a shock

Adorably enough, Andy said that his own mother was pretty taken aback when he decided to have children.

“I would talk about kids, and my mom would say, ‘You’re never gonna do it, you are never gonna do it.’ She just never thought that I would have the cheishek ([motivation]) to actually do it,” he recalled.

We bet his mama is happy she was wrong about that one!

Andy seems very happy in his latest role

While it may have been quite the adjustment to go from bachelor to baby diaper changer, Andy seems to have happily taken it all in stride. In fact, he and Anderson have become quite the daddy duo over the years since the two friends both welcomed kids of their own. We doubt either of them has any regrets!
