My best friend tipped me off to the wonders of the mini crib – the Babyletto Origami Mini Crib, specifically. Surprise, surprise – girlfriends always have the best advice, don’t they?
I’ll admit, I was skeptical. Why on earth would I opt for a super-small crib? Wouldn’t I have to upgrade to a full-size one rather quickly? But we were tight on space, and my bestie assured me I wouldn’t regret it. So I clicked "buy now."
Four years and two babies later, and the Babyletto Origami Mini Crib is truly one of my favorite pieces of baby furniture to recommend. It really is that good. Here’s why:
It's tiny but mighty
Our mini crib nests in our bedroom on my side of the bed. It’s a small room, and a regular size crib wouldn't fit. Well, it could, I suppose, but then I wouldn’t have a walkway! And here’s the thing, babies are small people. My son, who was an epic 33 inches long at his one-year wellness appointment still fits comfortably. I suspect he will snuggle up in his mini crib until he's ready to transition to a regular bed, just like his big brother did.
Portable perfection
The Babyletto Origami Mini Crib comes standard with locking caster wheels. If you don’t fancy that look, you can take them off. But with them, this crib is portable perfection. Need baby to sleep elsewhere for a nap or an evening? Just roll the crib where you want it to be. It fits easily through doorways and thus allows a lot of flexibility.
A rainbow of colors
This mini crib in particular comes in EIGHT different colors. It’s a small but very fun feature. We love the gray, and my bestie chose white – you could say that neutrals got the best of us. I love imagining this sweet little crib as the focal point of a nursery in canyon, black, navy, petal pink, light sage, or washed natural though. Colorful cribs are the best!
The storage potential
The brand couldn’t have chosen a more fitting name for their mini crib. The Origami folds up flat for storage and quite easily too. First, you remove the mattress and support, each side folds in, and then the support slips in the middle. It’s thin and compact and simple to store when not in use. I’ve kept it behind a dresser and under our bed at various times. You could even pack it up and take it to Grandma’s house if needed – it fits in the back of my van without a problem.
It doesn’t break the bank
You can drop some big dollars on nursery furniture. I know, I’ve browsed… and quickly clicked away. Thankfully, Babyletto offers a plethora of furniture options that boast modern designs without costing a posh price. The Babyletto Mini Crib retails for $299 and that includes a 1-inch mattress. You can also opt to upgrade to an organic mattress or choose another brand's mini crib mattress, as it's a standard 37 inches by 23.5 inches.
Quality with a capital Q
Despite being just $299 (even cheaper if you can catch one secondhand!), this mini crib does not forgo quality. In fact, ours still looks quite fresh after housing two little ones and being packed up and transported for two moves over the years. You might think that a foldable crib would lack some sturdiness, but not the Babyletto. Everything fixes in place and exudes quality in all the right places.
Are you sold yet? (And, no, this is not an ad, I'm just obsessed with my crib.) I’ve never second-guessed our mini crib and am truly grateful my bestie convinced me to give it a try. So if you've been on the fence about one of these, hopefully I can be that same little nudge for you. I promise you won’t regret going mini.
