There are many reasons to love when March comes around. It’s the start of spring, a rejuvenating season for many, when the sun comes out for longer stretches and we can open the windows to air out the gloom of winter. Best of all, it’s before the heat of summer arrives, when we’re too uncomfortable to go outside or we’re sweating through the sheets at bedtime.
For many, springtime is their favorite season, and it’s a great time to bring a newborn into the world, too. The temperature gets a little warmer in March, which means walks in the stroller to get our newborn to sleep don’t require 20 minutes of bundling them up first. And we can layer our clothes, which helps for when we’re out and about and our postpartum hormones strike and either make us too hot or too cold.
Beyond the start of spring, March also comes with a few fun holidays (like St. Patrick’s Day and Mardi Gras, which happened on March 1 this year), and it’s the month we honor Women’s History.
But the perks of a March birthday go beyond our postpartum phase, the weather outside, and enjoying foods that aren’t traditionally green. There are some statistical facts that come with being born in March that are fascinating.
If you’re expecting a baby in March or you’re a parent to one already, here are a few interesting facts about kids who celebrate their birthday in the third month of the year.
March-born babies are more likely to grow up and become pilots

Most of us don’t know what kind of career we want to have until there’s a fair amount of life experience behind us. And of course, we can’t determine what our baby will choose for work when the time comes. But for babies born in March, there is a higher likelihood that they will grow up to be a pilot.
March-born people have sunnier personalities with lots of optimism

One of the many things that makes the world go round is how different people are from each other. No two people are exactly the same, and some of us react to different situations based on our personalities. These develop from a combination of nature and nurture. And some experts believe that the month we’re born in has an influence. For March-born kids, they tend to have a lot of optimism and carry a sunny personality.

We know that our generation lives longer than our great-great-grandparents and that although some people can live long lives – well past their 80s – some live even longer, into the 100s. Unfortunately, for babies born in March, one study shows that they’re less likely to hit 100 years old. Not impossible, just slightly less than some kids born in other months.
March-born people are night owls

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who get up early in the morning and get right to their to-do list, and the ones who stay up late into the night to get their work done. The early risers tend to go to sleep earlier, while the night owls go to bed much later. One study shows that kids born in March tend to sway into the night owl category.
People with March birthdays have a decreased risk of certain diseases

We all hope to grow up and be happy and healthy and there are a lot of factors that come into play determining whether that happens or not. One study found that babies born in March have a slight advantage in the health department. They tend not to have an increased risk of health concerns, like neurological illnesses, respiratory illnesses, reproductive issues, or cardiovascular illnesses, and they actually are associated with a decrease in risk.
