5 Interesting Facts About Babies Born in February

Most of us don’t have too much say in what month our baby will be born. We can plan — meticulously even — and sometimes even with all that, our baby is born when they are born. The good thing is that there are pros and benefits for a baby born in any calendar month or any season.

When it comes to February, there are already some perks and benefits that come along with babies that are due in the second month of the year. It’s an easier pregnancy for many because you’re not in the third trimester during summer, which can be really tough. But you’re also not going to have a baby right in the middle of the coldest and darkest months of the winter.

Plus, extra bonus points given, because February is also the shortest month of the year, which makes for some interesting opportunities (like a February 29th birthday) and Valentine’s Day, too.

If you’re expecting a baby in February or you’re a parent to one already, here are five interesting facts about kids who celebrate their birthday in the second month of the year.

February babies tend to be more creative and artistic

We all want our kids to grow up and be who they are in the most authentic way possible. For February babies, they tend to thrive in careers that allow them to use their creative and artistic sides.

According to a study done by the Office of National Statistics, the month people are born can impact career choices (that have more to do with conditions in the womb), and February kiddos are more likely to thrive where creativity is a bonus.

Babies born in February grow up to be very well-behaved kids

According to researchers in New Zealand, babies born in the winter are more behaved than kids born in other seasons. The research team collected data by looking at 4- and 5-year-olds’ sharing, concentration, fidgeting, consideration, and ability to make friends. And the results of that research showed that winter-born kiddos – which includes February – are much better behaved.

Strong willpower and emotional strength are February-born traits

Emotional strength isn’t something we typically put a lot of focus on, but it can be a great quality to help guide us through life. Even better when it’s combined with strong willpower. That’s why February babies have a leg up, too.

According to The Atlantic, the season in which we’re born impacts our moods, too – and winter-born babies are more chill and stronger while summer-born ones tend to be more prone to mood swings.

February babies are more likely to grow up with sleep struggles

Having trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep isn’t fun for anyone. It can be especially frustrating for parents who are the most tired ever with kiddos who don’t care one bit.

Unfortunately for kids born in February, sleep struggles might be more likely, and narcolepsy is more prevalent in people with February birthdays, too.

February babies are taller

If you’ve ever wanted to have a taller kiddo who might be really good at sports like volleyball or basketball, February-born babies are more likely to be born taller. This is true for winter-born babies, and it’s not just their height that is bigger.

A study out of Harvard University of approximately 21,000 kids done over seven years found that kids born in winter, including February, were taller, heavier, and had a larger head circumference at age 7 than their counterparts.
