Mason's Wish
Melodie Williams's son Mason, 3, was born with hypoplastic left-heart syndrome, a life-threatening disease in which he was born with only half a heart. The toddler needs a heart and lung transplant to survive, but his raised blood pressure has prevented him from being put on a transplant list. While mom Melodie is still holding out hope, she wanted to create a special surprise for him in case he didn't live to see another winter. With the help of local business owners, the mother of five transformed her front garden near the West Midlands in the UK into a winter wonderland with over 100 gallons of snow, christmas trees and lights. According to The Daily Mail, Mason has undergone a series of heart operations, but is currently unable to undergo the final stages of the procedure due to pressure in his lungs.

"When he woke up and stepped out of the front door he was so shocked. He laughed and giggled as he touched the snow," said Williams.

"If I didn't do it now, and something happens to him, I'd never forgive myself for not making the most of the time we had," mom Melodie Williams, 41, said.

"I had a meeting with the cardiologist and he said Mason's blood pressure was too high for him to have an operation to extend his life," said Williams, who reached out to companies in her neighborhood to help her son fulfill a wish.

"I just had to do something now in case he's not alive next time it snows," Williams told The Daily Mail.

"He couldn't speak but I knew he was loving his treat," said Williams.

As far as what the future holds, Williams says they can only give it time. "Right now we're waiting until his pressures go down or the half of his heart that works gives out," said Williams.

Companies that helped out included Snowbusiness, which imported real snow and his local supermarket chain Asda, which donated lights, trees and decorations.
